SOURCE: My car sometimes won't let

This is probably the ignition lock cylinder worn out or getting old. The TDM is most likely not locking the key in, but new cars are pretty tied into themselves. For now, just try leaving the key in. Use another one for the doors. Some cars have a small hole under the steering wheel/column that you can stick a pen or something in to release your key. Maybe just be ready for something else breaks, then you'll know what is wrong.

2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

2004 Chevrolet Venture I beat out the switch and took out security wire will change gears and steer won't even try to turn over.is there anything I can do besides by a new steering column.

You can't just take out the security wire as you say . If the PCM/ECM doesn't see a correct signal from the security module it won't let your vehicle start . You just cost yourself a whole lot of money . Now the only thing you can do is have it towed to a qualified repair shop . You obviously have no clue on anti-theft systems an the electronics involved . With a new or used steering coulmn the keys will still need to be programmed into the computers .

The vehicle theft deterrent system functions are provided by the theft deterrent control module(VTD). The vehicle theft deterrent system prevents vehicle operation if a valid (learned) transponder PASS-Key®III (PK3) ignition key is not used to start the vehicle. The VTD module has an exciter that is part of the VTD module as an assembly. The PK3 key has a transponder embedded in the plastic head of the key. The exciter is an antenna which is made up of wire coils which surround the ignition lock cylinder. The PCM enables engine starting when it receives a valid (learned) password from the VTD module via the class 2 serial data circuit. The components of the vehicle theft deterrent system are as follows:
• Theft deterrent control module (VTD)
• Powertrain control module (PCM)
• Ignition key (Transponder)
• Ignition lock cylinder
• Security indicator

Vehicles with steering column mounted ignition switches have the exciter integral with the theft deterrent control module which is located within the steering column. How to reser Theft Deterrent Module on cobalt

The antitheft picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

I have a 2002 Chevy Venture and am having problems with the ignition. Our master was damaged so we got a new pk3 transponder key cut and tried to program it but it still won't work. We did the turn it...

You do not have another master ? If not you need a factory scan tool Dealer or mobile lock smith .
Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Insure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.
With a scan tool, select Request Info. under Service Programming System and follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.
Disconnect the scan tool from the vehicle and connect the scan tool to a Techline Terminal with the current Service Programming System (SPS) software.
On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions.
Disconnect the scan tool from the Techline Terminal and re-connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
With a master passkey III key, turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
With a scan tool, select Program ECU under Service Programming System.
At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
Important: On some vehicles the SECURITY telltale maybe illuminated on steady for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
Observe the scan tool, after approximately 10 minutes the scan tool will display "Programming Successful, Turn OFF Ignition". The vehicle is now ready to relearn the key information and/or the passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to ON.
Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
With a master Passkey III key, start the vehicle. The theft deterrent control module has now learned the key transponder information and the PCM has now learned the fuel continue password.
Important: Perform this step ONLY on vehicles with EXPORT and Canadian configured theft deterrent control modules.
Turn OFF the ignition and wait 15 seconds minimum.
Important: Perform this step ONLY on vehicles with EXPORT and Canadian configured theft deterrent control modules.
With a second master passkey III key, start the vehicle. The theft deterrent control module has now learned the second master Passkey III key transponder information
With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.

STARTING DISABLED REMOVE KEY
The radio illuminates the STARTING DISABLED REMOVE KEY message when the VTD system has disabled the starting system. The radio receives a message from the theft deterrent control module via the serial data circuit requesting illumination.

Your best bet ,take it to Cadillac dealer and have it checked . Could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes
DTC B1015
DTC B1016
DTC B3031
DTC B3055
DTC B3060
DTC B3090

The theft deterrent module or the insturment cluster or the ECM is not seeing correct info.
The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system functions are provided by the theft deterrent control module. When an ignition key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder and the ignition is switched ON, the transponder embedded in the head of the key is energized by the exciter coils surrounding the ignition lock cylinder. The energized transponder transmits a signal that contains its unique value, which is received by the theft deterrent control module. The theft deterrent control module then compares this value to a value stored in memory, learned key code. If the value is correct the theft deterrent control module sends a random generated number to the transponder, this is called a challenge. Both the transponder and the theft deterrent control module perform a calculation on the challenge, if the calculations match the theft deterrent control module sends the fuel continue password via the serial data circuit to the Engine control module (ECM). If either the transponders unique value or the calculation to the challenge is incorrect the theft deterrent control module will send the fuel disable password to the ECM via the serial data circuit. The components of the VTD system are as follows:
• Theft deterrent control module
• Engine control module (ECM)
• Ignition key (Transponder)
• Ignition lock cylinder
• Security indicator
