That's USUALLY the little RFID ring around the ignition switch. To be sure, you need to use VIDA/DICE to tell you exactly what it is the car is complaining about.

If you don't have it, find a local independent Volvo shop, or go to the dealer. They will charge you an hour's labor, unless they're nice and only charge you half that to tell you what the code is.

Sorry , you can't . Unless you have a professional scan tool an factory service repair info. Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

SOURCE: immobilizer proceedure not working for volvo v70 2001

It is simple you can't really do that. If the way to bypass was easy what good would a system be? Huh?

Have it towed to Volvo dealer. They are the only ones with a computer capable of resetting immobilizer.

Immobilized car

security system has locked the vehicle. it thinks it is being stolen. lock all doors , unlock drivers door with key ( not the fob) crank the car with door shut with the key.
if it doesnt work try locking doors leave car unattended for 30 min try again. if that doesnt work connect a battery charger to the battery . leave key in the run ( not start) position for 30 mins and try to start it then. if that is unsucessful tow it to dealer

The computer says the immobilizer coil is open/short

Did you reset the computer. Usually disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes should do it. If this does not fix it, you need to recheck your work. Something you did has caused the message. Did you short circut a wire, burn a fuse, forget to reconnect something? The immobilizer probably works by immobilization of the vehicle's coil circut. Thus, causing the computer message to display about the coil issue. Try reset computer of vehicle should work.

Cars computer showing immobilizer problem.car will turn over but wont start. have replaced the ignition immobilizer antenna but problem still current

Dear Sir
It could be cause of 4 things 1 Key faulty 2 Engine Control Module 3 Ignition Immobilizer 4 Wiring.
But when you replacing immobilizer it should be program or paired with Engine Control Module and Key, Then only it will work, for programing you will require scanner or diagnostic tool for particular model, better to visit authorize workshop. if any doubts please feel free and ask me thanks.

My volvo s40 2007 model was involve in accindent,Now it won't start.Message immobiliser try start again

If there is a blinking car icon with an "X" over it. This icon means the Immobilizer has been activated and hence won't allow the car to start. It could be due to a bad SCU, Start Control Unit. The SCU is actually the ignition switch on these cars.
Most of the time it's triggered by the anti-theft system..You can try this trick i learned that the dealers won't tell you...try locking and unlocking of the doors five times with the remote to reset the immobilizer and see if this helps.
Since you were in an accident it could be a safety related issue...such as a steering box fault. Your owners manual has some information in it on the immoblizer.
Good luck..i hope this helps...please take time to rate me a fixya,

1999 Volvo V70 wont start

I had the same problem with the 2000 v70 XC I bought in Dec. 08. I replaced the battery, then the antenna ring (around ignition; part of the immobilizer system), and bought new keys as sometimes the chips in them do go bad. Also, if you have a key for another car with an immobilizer system on the same keyring, take it off. The multiple signals can confuse the immobilizer system. I think the antenna ring may have been one issue as, consistent with what repairpal stated, I got a crank and the engined turned over for about a second or 2 one time and then it died. The antenna ring (and the new keys) were relatively inexpensive. That worked for about a month and then I got no crank at all.  I had the starter replaced, but in hindsight I think that may have not been the problem.  I think the problem was the starter not getting juice. The starter was a very expensive solution. About 2 weeks after having the starter replaced, it wouldn't crank again.  I took it to a Volvo dealership and gave them the history. They found a corroded wire near the starter and, at least until now, that seems to have done the trick. Labor on the wire was about $100 at the dealer. Searching Volvo forums for those who have had a similar problem, I have found that others have had the "bad wire" problem.  If you are told to replace the starter by your mechanic, my advice to anyone having this problem is to have check to make sure the starter is getting juice before replacing the starter as replacing the starter (parts and labor) cost me about $650-$700.  If they find that the starter is not getting juice, they can check for wire corrision starting at the starter and working their way back.
