I am not sure on this but I had one that did that and there is a fuse by the side of the dashboard that actually operates the transmission. Check all fuses first then try the box in motor compartment and check all those fuses including your relays. Thats just an easy start to what could be an easy fix.

SOURCE: jeep codes location of unit

Got me a complete manual for 199 jeep factory model and found location of each individual unit in question. Manual gives u possible solution to each code and repair and or replace. As a mechanic myself testing, trouble shooting and repair was not that difficult. Shift solenoid was very difficult to get to. Located under the head lamp passenger side.

SOURCE: Locationof the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid

Your transmission should still work if the solenoid goes bad. It will just shift funny

do the pin point tests, these start witjh running a trouble code test, autozone and kragen will do this for free, if u haven't had the trans apart then cross out any crossed wiring issues, but I do think you will find a problem with the 2-3 shift solenoid, either the solenoid has failed or the connector has a problem on the outside of the trans.

SOURCE: honda torque converter clutch solenoid circuit

P0740 is a Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction, you will need to have just this circuit tested, it is mostly just a defective Torque converter clutch solenoid in the trans or a defective connection to the trans, u do not need another overhaul.

SOURCE: Volkswagen 01M torque converter stuck

You have to be very careful with input shaft rings. They like to eat into the pump stater. Also always buy new vb don't buy rebuilt because they only work 2 out of 5 times. I know this for experience

the 4L80e is Tcm electronically shifted

and I bet dollars to donuts it has tranny errors.!!!
get the service manual and see how to scan the TCM.
no better way exists.

some the PCM has TCM brain inside and DTC P07xx errors show up using any scan tool, but RTM

02 Dodge Stratus for the 2.4 engine pO700 po733

P0700 is simply the ecm recognising that the tcm (tranny) has an error code stored/registered. The one to worry about is your p0733 code. This code means the tcm detected a gear ratio error in third gear. There's 5 main possible causes. Simple/cheap -> expensive/difficult. .. Low or dirty ATF. Add fluid if low or change fluid and filter If burnt smelling or dirty/discolored. Shifting solenoid . Check or have tested the shifting solenoids . They control fluid flow and transfer to various clutch packs for gears. Hydraulic control circuit and mechanical failure. Both of these require full rebuild. Control circuit is expensive and hard to get to . Mechanicalso is usually either a worn out/pourly adjusted clutch pack causing the gear to slip or a failing torque converter.

Saturn sc2 problem

DTC P0732 sets when 2nd clutch still slips after the PCM has commanded high main line pressure
DTC P0734 sets when 4th clutch still slips after the PCM has commanded high main line pressure.
DTC P0733 sets when 3rd clutch still slips after the PCM has commanded high main line pressure.
The powertrain control module (PCM) uses the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, input speed sensor (ISS) and output speed sensor (OSS) to determine engine speed, input shaft speed and output shaft speed. These sensor readings are used to determine the current gear ratio and RPM slip across the torque converter. The PCM uses this information from the sensors to determine if the commanded gear matches the actual gear. During normal driving conditions, the PCM will adapt main line pressure via the pressure control (PC) solenoid to prevent slipping and harsh shifts. Shift solenoid 2 is used to apply or release second gear clutch. The PCM controls 2nd gear by controlling the ground for shift solenoid 2. The PCM will turn the solenoid Off (open the driver circuit) when second gear is commanded On to apply 2nd clutch. Shift solenoid 2 is supplied ignition voltage from the fuel pump relay whenever the PCM commands the fuel pump relay On.
Do you know how to test main line pressure ? Also , with the valve body off air check clutch packs . Do you know how to do that ? How many miles on the trany ?

What does a shift solonoid do and also what does a torque converter do

A shift solenoid controls oil flow to the clutch packs in an automatic transmission. It uses DC power to turn them on The clutch packs control which gear you want The torque converter is basically a slippable clutch when you accelerate it engages and drives the gearbox

Will a 1994 chevy 4l80e 4wd swap into a 1995 GMC

Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts. Good luck and hope this information helps.

I think transmission went out of my 97 gmc safari just had transmission rebuilt a year ago the only thing is i still have reverse would there be anything else which would cause this?

As weird as it sounds, the oil level in an automatic transmission can cause a few weird things like this so maybe a seal wasn't put in correcly when they rebuilt and oil leaked out, causing bugs and whatnot since the tranny doesn't have enough oil to build the right pressure to operate completely. And if they rebuilt it though, they should've changed the clutch packs in the tranny, but it could happen that they forgot some, or installed wrong and they broke after a while or a host of other things, cause in some models there are 2 or 3 different clutch packs, one for reverse (but not on all models) one for the normal drive gears (gears 1 through 3) and another for the overdrive (4th). So if the clutchpack for the normal drive gears broke or is too worn out cause they forgot to change it, then it would shift in reverse since the reverse clutch pack is good, and not go into drive cause the driver packs are shot. Although I never did dismantle a safari transmission so i cannot garanty you have a seperate clutch pack for reverse or not, so ask a local mechanic that is used to working with those models if it is possible in this model or not before payin to get the tranny opened again. If it's impossible for the clutch packs to cause this and the fluid level is OK, then the problem is probably in the valve body solenoid pack, and in that case it's bad news for the tranny... valve bodies are muchos muchos money and so is the ammount the garage will charge to change it.
