SOURCE: crankshaft sensor located 98 jeep grnd cher 4wd 6cy

it is located at the back of the engine on top of the transmission bell housing, the plug runs over to the passenger side of the engine bay and it comes out from behind the engine, you can actually get your hand on the sensor itself from under the hood on the drivers side, and i believe its a 13mm bolt holding it in,the new sensor will have a sticker on the end of it...leave it there,it is used for correct spacing between the sensor and the flywheel, hope this helps

SOURCE: Where is the camshaft sensor located on my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you still have a cap rotor and ignition wires, it's inside the distributor. If not, it is the part where the distributor used to be (center rear of the engine behind the intake manifold)

REMOVAL - 4.7L
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.7L V–8 engine is bolted to the front/top of the right cylinder head (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).

It is easier to remove/install sensor from under vehicle.

Raise and support vehicle.
Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).
Remove sensor mounting bolt (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).
Carefully twist sensor from cylinder head.
Check condition of sensor o-ring.
See picture for sensor location.

The check light indicate that code 14 and P1492 are problems. What are the issues?

Battery or Ambient temperature sensor. Look for a sensor under the battery. Make sure it is connected good, and if so, I would probably replace it.

My check engine light came on so I ran a diagnostic code came up as 1492 which shows it as ambient temperature sensor voltage too high

To do with battery temperature sensor. Check battery condition and clean connections. Check under battery on battery tray, it may just be a bared wire or bad connection on the sensor as well.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My problem is that my C/T guage reads about three degrees higher on the outside temperature side than the actual temperature is. I realize that might be a minor problem,...

Are you talking about the coolant temperature (c/t) or the ambient temperature (outside temp). If you're refering to the ambient temperature the problem is the sensor is located under the radiator support and picks up the temperature off the pavement this is done intentionally to help detect icing conditions and unfortunatley there is no calibration for the sensor.
