I drove it home from school and it was working fine. When I started it up again to go to work less than an hour later, the noise started. It only stops when I turn off the ignition. I can hear it inside and outside the car, though it's louder inside. It does not change in pitch or volume when I put in the car in park, neutral, drive, or reverse. It does not change when I brake or accelerate (I drove up to about 40 and it didn't change at all). It does not change when I turn on the radio, unplug the cassette, or change the speaker settings. I noticed a slight change when I put my windows up and down and again when I turned the heat up, but these were very slight and it went back to the loud droning noise as soon as I let go. I looked underneath the car and nothing was obviously broken. It had not been making this noise a few hours ago. I had my tires rotated and resealed around the rim a few weeks ago and have been driving it more than I normally do in the winter, but I don't see why that should make a difference. I also just got a new battery. the roads I drive are a little bumpy and I have gone over a few big potholes recently and it's been below freezing for a week or so. Let me know what you think.

Daughters 2004 Aveo stopped dead on freeway. Plastic thermostat on engine and melted off. Chevy said it blew the engine, searched on line and found 17 pages of same complaint. Chevy repaired car for free. Still not worth the worry. But if this is your problem, fight it don't pay for repairs!

SOURCE: very loud "rubbing " sound when driving only
you did damage to the wheel bearing i bet it sounds like a airplane sound. also if you steering wheel is off 7"then have front end aligned because this will destroy the tires and they will make noise.
