SOURCE: pcv valve

I have a 98 4L SOHC . The valve seems to be behind the intake manifold. The emissions diagram shows 2 hoses going to it. Local dealership swears Part #EV225 is correct. You would not believe how much of the internet is devoted to this situation

The PCV valve is located in the valve cover on the passenger side of the vehicle. The valve is closer to the firewall than it is to the front of the engine. It has a hose attached to it and threads into the valve cover.

SOURCE: where is the pcv valve located on a 2003 ford ranger

  • The PCV valve can be located in several places. The most common location is in a rubber grommet in the valve cover. It can be installed in the middle of the hose connections, as well as installed directly in the intake manifold.
  • Once the PCV valve is located, make sure all the PCV system hoses are properly connected and that they have no breaks or cracks.
  • Remove the air cleaner and inspect the air and crankcase filters. Crankcase blowby can clog these with oil. Clean or replace such filters.
  • Oil in the air cleaner assembly indicates that the PCV valve or hoses are plugged.
  • Make sure you check these and replace the valve and clean the hoses and air cleaner assembly.
  • When the PCV valve and hose are in satisfactory condition and there is oil in the air cleaner assembly, perform a cylinder compression test to check for worn cylinders and piston rings.

rough-idling engine can signal a number of positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve problems, such as a clogged valve or a plugged hose. But before beginning the functional checks, double check the PCV valve part number to make certain the correct valve is installed. If the correct valve is being used, continue by disconnecting the PCV valve from the valve cover, intake manifold, or hose. Start the engine and let it run at idle. If the PCV valve is not clogged, a hissing is heard as air passes through the valve. Place a finger over the end of the valve to check for vacuum.

With the engine at idle, vacuum should be felt at the PCV valve.

    Ford windstar problems

Possibly a vacuum leak. I'd try checking the hose going to the PCV valve as it's a common problem with Ford engines. They generally collapse and melt a hole through the rubber elbow on the valve end but have seen the opposite end do the same thing on occasion.

My mom has a 2003 ford windstar and just last week the check engine light came on. We took it in to have it looked and it came up with the codes PO171 and PO174, what can those codes mean?

it means you may have a big vacuum leak, or the maf sensors little wires inside of it are dirty and need to be cleaned, or the maf sensor failed. Also there is a TSB that says to remove the PCV valve on the valve cover near the radiator, Then remove the little rubber grommet and look inside. At about the 5 oclock position you may see a little hole on the plate that is above the valves . If you see the hole then your suppose to replace the valve cover.
If all this fails to fix the problem then you need to remove the intake plennun and inspect and replace the gaskets.

97 ford expo, sputtering, almost like its missing? Could it be a manafold or compression problem?

replace the pcv (positive Crank Vent) and it should come with a tube and hose. The rubber grommet that plugs into the throttle body gets a hole in it. Check this by spraying starting fluid near the back of the Carb, if it revs, thats it!
