SOURCE: i replaced the water pump

make sure you can turn engine over by the crank bolt this will make sure engine is free and not bound up. if it will turn then check wiring at starter make sure everything is tight.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. I went through the same thing as you are. It won't stay running or won't start at all. Have they rules out a fuel issue? It could be the fuel pump, filter, or fuel injectors. What they have said to you is true. Anyone of them parts can cause this. Do you have a check engine light on? If so, you need to have it scanned. It may show your problem on the code tester. The computer rarely goes out and I would save that for last. You should be able to look at the timing belt yourself. It has a protective cover, actually a few. You want to take off the top one that is in front. It should only have a screw or two. Take it off and then you can see the timing belt. Make sure it is not broke, tearing, or slipping when you crank the car. If it is an electrical issue, you could be in trouble. They are hard to find and hard to test for. If so, it is better to put it on a machine at a shop. You need to make sure you have spark at the spark plugs/coils. It sounds like they are telling you the truth Neil. When a car acts like this, there are many things that can cause it. If you have a question, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.

SOURCE: just replaced timing chain and gears noiw wont stay running

I would guess you have to go back over your work
with regards to the timing chain & cam gear settings
If your at a professional shop, they can look at various data,
to get an idea if timing is an issue since that work was just
done

Crank pully broke off, serpenteen belts broke.timing seems off

I have seen many crank pulleys come apart thus throwing the belt especially in v6 gm cars and a few ford v8. When they separate, the base stays on the crankshaft so the crank gear stays put and the timing belt/chain stay in place. If your engine still runs, then you do not have a timing belt/ chain that has moved. We really need more information to give you a better answer. What type and year of the car and what engine.

99 grand cherokee wont start changed crank ,cam, map, fuel filter/relay back by the tank, got 53psi on the fuelrail, new computer new relays

just a couple thoughts. Injector fuse and relay(does fuse and relay have power to and from them). My understanding is sometime Anti theft will shut down injection pulse so car can not be run. Maybe even timing chain broke. I assume there is no trouble code.

Why wont stratus start

seems like if it was getting fuel it would start. if it starts with fluid it should stay running if its getting fuel. also there are two different cam gears that come on these engines. if the wrong one is installed it wont start unless you unplug the cam sensor. make sure you have the right gear. if it dosnt look the same as the old one, its wrong. also check your engine vacum while cranking. if the vacum is low its a sign the timing chain is off the marks. your plugs would all be wet with fuel if it wont fire, check for this if above checks out

Crank sensor location

If the timing chain fails, the engine will not have compression.
A faulty crank sensor should set a trouble code in the computer.

Problems with 07 tundra, engine light on, won't turn over completely without pumping gas pedal. Told it needs timing chain replaced

Timing chain controls the valve timing and causes running issues. It sounds like the chain and or chain guides are bad and you should NOT drive it that way as you can cause much more damage. Get it fixed and you should be fine. If it is a high mile car have them do a complete inspection of the vehicle before you spend any more money so you know if there are more issues.

Timing chain is replaced and it still won't crank. What to do next?

Won't crank....by that you mean the motor will not turn over at all.

If thats the case check the starter...make sure its getting power.

The timing chain has nothing to do with CRANKING THE ENGINE.

If you mean it wont FIRE...then make sure the timing is set right...that the distributor is not out of wack...could be the timing chain was put in a tooth off, and it wont fire then if thats the case.
