I have a 2011 Buick regal cxl with a 2.4ltr. Runs rough, idles rough, stalls, misses. Had my local parts store pull codes. code for cam sensor came up. changed sensor. problem went away for a few hours then came back. this time no codes. It does have an exhaust leak but the tester is still showing good back pressure.
Apparently the same engine is used in several makes and models and they have a timing problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEEuyunUhgs
SOURCE: Engine runs perfectly but dies
I would strongly suspect a failing fuel pump. Possibly a defective fuel filter, but with the milage, I would think the fuel pump is going bad.
SOURCE: 1998 Regal LS sputters/stalls; alternator keeps failing
i'd say you have a ground problem if you are burning up alternators... sorry if that don't help... i would have to see car to better appreciate problem.
SOURCE: buick regal 3.8l 3800 series 2 rough idle, almost stalls, surges forward
have u checked the idel air control selonoid otherwise could be a bad injector or fuel pressure regulator
SOURCE: 1990 Buick Regal 3.1 has rough idle, hesitates and dies when accelerating.
A lot of new parts! Have a compression test done to gauge the engine's internal condition, and go from there. If compression is good on all 6 cylinders, scan for trouble codes. The compression test may find your problem, something like an exhaust valve burned or not seating properly.
SOURCE: on a 2000 buick regal 3.8 have a code p0341 changed cam sensor and IGM code still comes back
problems associated with the cam sensor are ---insecure sensor/rotor---air gap---wiring---and the sensor itself. In the workshop manual it will explain how to check the rotor security and the air gap. If all is ok use the code reader to reset the CPU an eliminate the code.
