SOURCE: looking for location of crankshaft sensor on a 96 ford f150 5.0
YOUR ENGINE USES A DISTRIBUTOR STATOR TO SENSE CRANK POSITION, IT IS INSIDE THE DISTRIBUTOR, MAKE SURE U REPLACE THE TFI IGNITION MODULE WHILE U ARE IN THERE, USE ONLY FORD PARTS, THE AFTERMARKET FAIL VERY QUICKLY AND CAN CAUSE REALLY WEIRD PROBLEMS. SEE PHOTO

It will be easiest to find by getting under the truck and looking up at the engine. It will be a round sensor that screws into the side of the engine block. It will only have one or two wires going to it, usually just one. It is round and about 1 1/4 inches across. Not sure if it is on the driver or passenger side, but it should be pretty easy to find.

If it has one it's on the back of the block at the top it depends on what engine you have but most of them are a 5.4 or 4.6 or 4.2 and those have the knock sensors under the intake manifold on the passenger side. right behind the intake

It is on the lower left side of the engine (side towards firewall - see picture).
Knock sensor failures are pretty rare, why are you looking for it?
