You seem to know enough about cars to rule out the obvious, like no gas, no spark.
If the tracker dies at stop signs or traffic lights, but you can start it and run it in between for a while, it could have an ECM failure, common for this age and year of tracker. Your symptoms are not exactly the same, but you may want to investigate this if nothing else works.
For more information on ECM failures google 'Geo Tracker ECM Failure'. The module can be purchased (rebuilt) on Ebay for about a hundred bucks. I have no affiliation with the guy that sells them.

try running a good injector cleaner thru it- sounds as if you have a(or a couple)weeping injector,
try LUCAS injector cleaner- works on my sonoma
Could also be an intermittent coil, due to loose connections in the distributor.
