2004 rendezvous. water'pump siezed and vehicle overheated. new pump, thermostat, 16 psi radiator cap, radiator... was pressure tested with no 'obvious leaks'. minimal to no heat .

Runs ok at sideroad speed. immediately overheats on the highway. loses 'kickdown power' until i turn it off and restart. i have access to a rusted out 2004 buick century with 3100 engine that runs fine. could that go in to the rendezvous in case this is a 'pinhole' head gasket leak, ir could the 3400 get away with new head gaskets?

Hey there,
I've just had an ongoing problem with my 1990 Pulsar overheating.
Mechanics checked everything: electric fan, airlocks, leaks, etc
Car continued overheating intermittently for months - finally the mechanic put a non standard thermostat in, one which activates at a slightly lower temp that stock.
Problem is now resolved.
Hope this helps,
Michael

You did not mention if you replaced the thermostat. It may be stuck closed.

could very well be the water pump. they dont always leak if they are bad. sometimes the impeller that moves the water through the system fails.

My chevy Venture van still overheating after radiator replaced, temp gauge replaced and fans fixed. WHY?

You may have air trapped in the cooling system. This will cause overheating. When you fill the system, there is a small brass air purge valve above the coolant pump and another on the thermostat housing. These need to be loosened and trapped air released when filling the cooling system.

Why is my 2001 bmw 325i still is overheating after i changed the water pump, thermostat and purge the system?

Well Michael put your hand on radiator upper hose and then the lower hose right after car warms up and just starts overheating is there a temperature difference if so one of two things is going on thermostat not opening even though it is new or there is still an air bubble in the cooling system if nthere is no difference and still overheating might have to explore headgasket being blown

Chevy impala overheating

If it is running hot in a short distance, I would check the water pump to find out if it is pumping coolant thru the system. It should run for 5-10 min before the thermostat would be a problem.

2004 dodge dakota p/u is overheating after a 10 mile ride. new water pump, new upper radiator hose with 13 psi cap. radiator removed and checked at shop. said it has good flew. will replace lower...

Have you checked the thermostat?

Once the engine is up to operating temp both the upper and lower hoses should feel about the same temp and the radiator should be hot all the way across. If the hoses are two different temps and the radiator never gets hot than there is a flow issue. Most likely the thermostat is stuck or partially stuck closed.

The other possibility is you have not burped all the air out of the system after you made the repairs. It is important to let the vehicle warm at at idle with the radiator cap removed to help remove the air in the system. Once the engine is up to operating temp raise the RPM a little and continue to add coolant as necessary. Once the coolant level remains steady replace the radiator cap and test drive.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions I'll be happy to answer them.
