Before I say anything else, do not disconnect anything, if you do not want unpleasant surprises. I have never seen two that were alike. Even then, to maintain the speed, they use a different voltage for the CPU chip. Paper is cheap. Buy a booklet and mark it with the IBM designation and mark in it ALL things... If you don't do this, you are liable to have some unpleasant surprises. Besides all instruction manuals are written by people that English is not their native tongue and they will always forget a key word that you will be there frustrated.... 96 Suburban has no power to the starter switch & other electrical problems

You may need a shop to look at it, or get a used shop manual from Ebay to get the necessary wiring diagrams. The problems could be related, such as the key switch or the main wiring harness.
You say the dome light fuse is draining the battery, is one of the interior lights staying on ?

Sorry, there are virtually an infinite number of possible codes.
If an audio unit with theft protection is disconnected from electrical power, you must enter a unique code number into the unit or it will not work. This code and the audio unit’s serial number are listed on the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle. If this card is lost, you must obtain the audio unit serial number in order to get the radio code (some people say that they have found the code on a sticker inside the glove compartment, but I wouldn’t count on that). Some newer vehicles allow you to retrieve the audio unit serial number electronically from the radio. Refer to your owner’s manual for the specific procedure (the following usually will work: Turn the radio off. Push the preset 1, preset 6, and power buttons at the same time, then quickly release.)
. Some older vehicles (model year 2003 and older) require a visit to the dealer in order to retrieve the audio unit serial number. Once you have the audio unit serial number, you can call Auto Customer Service at (800) 999-1009 or have the dealer look up the radio code.

Just how hard is it to replace the starter on a 94 Suburban 5.6L diesel myself? Looks fairly easy.

Obtain new or rebuilt unit. Might also replace the solenoid while you have the starter removed but this will have to be your desicion.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery to prevent 'welding' while under the vehicle.
You may need to ellevate the vehicle and properly support the vehicle while working under it. Your need will be determined by 4x4 vs 2x4 and your physical size and need for work 'room'.
The starter is located on the passenger side of the engine near the exhaust manifold. It is cylindrical in shape(About the size of a small coffee can if it a 'old' style, about the size of a pint can of beer if the 'new' style). There are two bolts(Mine were 14mm heads yours may vary) holding the starter to the engine block. These will need to be removed and the starter supported. Then the wires to the solenoid can be removed. There are generally Two wires to the solenoid. These will require a 5/16" and a 9/16" socket or wrench but yours may be different.
Reverse the proceedure to install the new unit.
