SOURCE: 2003 Mazda protege had rough idle and wants to stall when I stop.

The idle on my 2003 Mazda Protege started acting strange one day - it kinda surged forward a little bit. Then the RPM would drop and kept wanting to stall out. It stalled out at a stop sign. The check engine light came on. I drove it immediately to my Goodyear mechanic. It ended up being the Idle Air Control Valve. They had to order the part from Mazda which took 3 days to get there. The whole thing cost $700. Runs great now (again).

SOURCE: I am wondering where the fuel filter is located on

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. They are usually located between the tires, toward the back, on the same side you fill up gas on. Go to the gas cap and look under the car. You will see the gas lines. Follow them toward the front of the vehicle and you will run into your fuel filter.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Mazda Protege 2.0 LX?

A 2001 Mazda Protege (actually, all models from 1999-2003 including the DX, LX, ES, Mazdaspeed, and Protege 5) does not have an inline fuel filter. The only fuel filter it has is a "strainer" or a "screen", which looks like a nylon mesh "sock". This strainer is connected to the fuel pump, located in the gas tank. Although this fuel strainer does not require periodic replacement, it is recommended that it be changed if you are replacing the fuel pump.

Mazdaspeed protoge 03 is making that high pitch squeeling noise and i just replaced powersteering belt.also as soon as i turn a/c on it starts squeeling

That means the fanbelt on the alternator is not tight enough or needs to be changed, if the belt on powersteering goes via A/C than it might be too tight on the powersteering pulley.

My car is a 03 mazdaspeed protege. After about a twenty minute drive it starts making a high pitched whistle sound. When i give it some gas it stops but when i let off it comes back.

This could be caused the idle speed control valve as air passes through it, have seen this issue on other models many times, clean the valve first, if the noise persists replace it.
