Brake drum strut???

The only strut relating to the brakes I can think of is the strut between the brake shoes of the rear brakes that is an essential part of the parking brake mechanism. The strut is often a fixed length but also often a multipiece construction with a variable length in order to provide either manual or automatic adjustment of the brake shoes.

The last time I needed to replace a pair of these I discovered none were available from the aftermarket and I was forced to order from a dealer at rip-off prices. A breaker might offer an alternative but I suggest you visit a dealer first and take a look at the exploded diagrams they have so you identify the part you need and discover the correct name for it.

dealer told me they couldnt get that part any more and your right thats parts i need both sides is gone

Vehicle manufacturers usually do not manufacture the braking systems of the vehicles they produce but buy them in from a number of specialist braking manufacturers, such as, Girling, Lockheed, Delphi, ATE and so forth.
It should be possible to identify the brand of the brake fitted to your car and then you could approach that company - you should be able to obtain a part number, if not the part, but there are a number of brake specialists you could approach (armed with the part number(s).

There have been times in my past where the strut and the lever have been badly worn and I have needed to "recondition" them by building up the worn parts with weld and then file them to the original size.

SOURCE: How do you change rear

Try penetrating oil on the lug nuts where they meet the drum. Let it penetrate and gently tap the back edge of the drum while turning it. I just pulled mine off today and it required a lot of patience. My adjuster was inaccessible as the adjustment hole(s) were still sealed from the factory

SOURCE: dodge 1500 front end problem

How about the shocks and possible hugh air pressure in tires? When you push down on front end the body should return without bouncing. Hard tire won't absorb road shock. Give those two a look at.. good luck

Are Dodge Chrysler and Dodge 1500 pick up brakes and rotor the same?

Question edited for clarity and spelling and added a few capital letters. Wrong type of break > brake.

Don't sweat the details, just buy the right part.

Or if you have a box of new ones, look the part up and compare online.

Cant cant remove rear drum brakes on 2001 ram 1500

You need to remove the rubber plug on the back of the shoe hold down plate. Next you need a brake adjusting tool or a flat screwdriver to back off the adjuster. This operation will take a few turns depending on how deep a groove has been worn in the drum. If it is tightening, you've gone the wrong way. Next remove the drum. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Struts have springs around them that must be removed to get to the replaceable part. Shocks are just by removable with out taking off the springs.

I need to know the name of the part in my 95 dodge ram 1500 3.9 liter pickup that makes the brake lights work? The fuse is good and the light bulbs are good because the come on when the lights are turned...

Hello there, The name of the part you are looking for is called a brake light switch, Fairly simple to change and relativly inexpensive. It is located behind the top of the brake pedal. Just a thought for you, I would suggest replacing the tail light bulbs first because you can have running lights and turn signals but the brake portion is burnt out.

Good Luck and I hope this helps, Allen

How do you change rear drum brakes on a dodge ram 1500. I cannot get the drums off.

Should be an oval or oblong hole at the bottom of the backing plate where you remove a rubber plug, insert a flatblade screwdriver that allows you to turn the brake adjuster,so that the shoes will back off,and release the brake drum. You may turn it the wrong way and actually tighten the shoes on the drum, but you will know that by turning the drum, and realize to go back the other way with the adjuster.Good luck.
