Any ideas what is causing a seemingly sudden electrical issue?
My son was driving our 2012 Mazda 3i Skyactiv today and had a sudden issue where all of the dash lights began coming on simultaneously and flashing or staying solid. No transmission selector on the dash, no turn signals clicking, etc. The car seemed to still be running and driving fine. He pulled into an auto parts store and connected a diagnostic tester, which kept having "connection" problems. However, he was able to get a P2610, U0100, U0101, and U0155 code off the reader. The 3 U codes have to do with lost connections to communicating with other modules, and the P2610 points to the PCM. We are in the process of doing a hard reset to see if the codes will clear, and if any come back up. Will also be taking the car back to an auto parts store and testing the battery and checking for codes again. Any more ideas why this is suddenly happening? We really haven't had any other problems with this car.
You can't jump the connector to get codes on OBD II. (Pre 1996) Try hooking back up you code reader. If it doesn't communicate, check the fuse for the cig lighter. This fuse should also power up the diagnostic plug.
All these " U " codes are communication issues amongst modules. These modules communicate on bus wiring from one to another. You have a communication issue with one or more modules. You will most likely have to have the vehicle proffessionaly scanned with a vehicle scan tool to be able to identify the source of this communication issue. You may have a bad module/wiring/power/ground issue to be repaired

Delete all the codes and never act on a first time code, just delete it and see if it comes back. If it does, depending on what it is, you can delete it a second time. Variable Valve Timing can often be a problem. Try cleaning the connector on the VVT Solenoid with switch cleaner spray.
since they say air+spark i would suggest you change or diagnose the Relief valve Failing ...You would get Low Air to Fuel ratio (AFR) causing exactly what your saying.
2012 Mazda 3 I touring Skyactiv - Takes a 38" 6 groove serpentine belt- Very hard to find. The only place I found besides the dealer it Advance Auto but they had to order from the warehouse. There are three grooved pulleys and a smooth tensioner. To relieve the Tensioner you will need a shallow 17MM socket, it is a bit difficult to see, but if you stand on the passenger side the mount point for the socket is to the left of the tensioner shock. The Tensioner shock is just above the smooth tensioner pulley. All the threaded pulleys' (Drive, A/C, and alternator are within the serpentine belt, the tensioner pulley is outside the belt pushing down on the belt. The easiest way to replace this belt, First remove the old belt by placing the socket on the mount point and pulling up on the ratchet towards the rear of the car, then pull belt off. Next remove socket, place the belt over the drive pulley (this is the one on the bottom to the rear of the engine. ( you will see there is another belt on this pulley on the back side.), then put the belt over the A/C pump bottom front. Keep tension on the belt so it stays in place. Now put that socket back on, push up to lift the tensioner pulley and slip the belt over the alternator pulley. Make sure the belt is sitting properly on each pulley and under the tensioner pulley. Good luck. I have run into quite a few problems finding parts and information for this particular model. Good luck. Hope this was helpful
Does the engine light come on during this failure? If it does, please have the codes read and forward them back to me. From your symptoms, it sounds like a mechanical failure. I would inspect the TAC (throttle actuating control) valve. and the throttle pedal, to start? You can look at it physically, inspect the wiring, condition, and operation. If you can get a friend to help. remove the air inlet tube, look at the butterfly inside the TAC unit. Have your friend turn the ignition key to run (DO NOT START THE ENGINE) and watch the butterfly respond as he or she applies and releases the throttle pedal(request to your helper, to communicate how far the pedal is going down and coming back). The motion of the pedal and the butterfly should be smooth and consistent. Would you tell me how often these symptoms occur and does it happen when the engine is cold, hot, or any temperature. Write back with any additional information or questions, good luck.
Sorry, Mazda has not released specific information about the 2012 models to the aftermarket yet. The nearest I could come up with is for a 2010 Mazda 3i (I am sure it is probably similar).
> Remove the plug hole plate from the top of the valve cover assembly > Remove ignition coil assemblies > Remove spark plugs > Installation is reverse procedure
With all that said, it is not necessary to replace spark plugs in your vehicle for 100,000 miles. I find it hard to believe that your 2012 car could possibly need spark plug replacements at this early age.
