Check your fuel filter. It may be clogged. If it is, you'll have no problem with starting and idling, since these require relatively little fuel flow, and even a clogged filter can usually flow enough for that. When you try and accelerate, the engine demands much more fuel, and a clogged filter may not be able to flow enough, which can shut the car down.

SOURCE: Fuel Filter location on a Petrol 2004 Kia Carnival

The fuel filter is located in the fuel tank, pump removal is required to replace. There is an inspection cover behind the front seats on the floor to gain access to the pump. stupid idea. but whats not stupid about kia.

Rent or borrow an OBD scanner from an auto parts store and follow the instructions on it. It will give you codes that you can use to look up on the internet to find out what they mean.

I have a kia sedona, then converted to kia carnival engine, when i started the engine its ok, so when im driving along, the engine stops, i pump it, then its ok, so i drive again, the engine stops.

it is possible that the ECM is not compatible with some of the sensors in the engine change
reset the ECM using a scan tool
read any fault codes and fix any problems found

Hi i want 2 buy a kia carnival and want 2 know whats the most common problem? i have seen a 2004 model lokks very clean but dont know much about these mpv..can anyone give me advise please?

Stay away from the Kia Carnival. I have discovered that all the Kias, regardless of age, have terrible over heating & engine problems, expensive to fix and unreliable.

The Carnival is a best seller in this market but it has suffered some noteworthy problems. A significant number needed new engines under warranty. They're far cheaper than most others but even so they're hard for me to recommend. Bear in mind the auto is far preferable to the manual. .
