MY KEYS WERE STOLEN FOR 3 MONTHS AND WHEN THEY WERE RETURNED ALL OF A SUDDEN MY KEY WOULDNT GO INTO THE IGNITION UNLESS I PULLED THE SWITCH OFF. I MADE SURE IT WAS MY KEY BY MY DOORS SO THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT.
Did you have another key so you could drive the volvo or did it set for 3 months. I you did not insert a key for 3 months, it is possible that something entered the key tumbler or someone tried another key or screwdriver or pick and bent the key tumblers. You may need to replace the key tumbler and key or have a key tooler take your key and tumbler and reset them so that the would work together again.

have you checked the fuses in the fuse panel. make sure you check them all sometimes manufactures use multiple fuses to control one thing.

remove the door pillar trim and un bolt it.slide seat forewards and remove the door surround rubbers then take off the door pillar trim

Ignition Switch They Are Always Going Bad Your Lucky You Can Get It Acc Mode Mine Wouldn't Turn At All. I Went After Market Through A Much Cheaper Version From Autozone But Now I Have One Key For The Door And Another For The Ignition.

Your car uses a transonder key, a key with a small chip embedded inside. The transponder is matched to the immobilizer unit in your car. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the immobilizer searches for that transponder, if it's not near the ignition, the car will just keep turning over and not start. Your only real options are to replace the steering lock or buy a transponder bypass unit, which I do not recommend. Just do a google search.

if your key is a transonder key wich has chip in it give it a couple of minutes to reset the code keep key in ignition and wait to see if it reads key or try another key and see if you have sameproblem make sure you unlock steering wheel disconnecting batteryfor posts might have reset car computer and cannot read ur key...

Save yourself a big headache and call a locksmith the ignition keys are cut different than the door and trunk locks, you can get an estimate from the locksmith and the price will surprise you. I hope this helps, Take care
