You have to check also the air mass flow sensor

Testimonial: "Hi, I have the P0100 error, I changed this sensor and keeps the error."

You have to check the wires of the air mass sensor all the way from sensor to ecu...you have a cut wire

Does the scanner show any other codes? Although you changed the TPS sensor, did you put in a new thermostat?

Testimonial: "Hi, I replaced the thermostat. I have the code P0100 and P1159. P0100 is MAF, but I changed this sensor and keeps the error."

SOURCE: ECM switches from closed loop to open loop at idle after warmup

WHEN ENGINE GOES CLOSED LOOP TO OPEN LOOP.YOU HAVE A RICH FUEL MIXTURE.YOU HAVE A VACUUM LEAK.BY YOU HAVING ROUGH IDLING.AND A HIGH MILEAGE ENGINE I WOULD DO A COMPRESSION TEST OR CYLINDER LEAK DOWN. CHECK FOR LEAKING VALVES AND LOW COMPRESSION .THEY BOTH WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO IDLE ROUGH CAUSE MISFIRE.CAUSE OPEN LOOP CONTAMINATE HO2 SENSOR CAUSE A RICH FUEL MIXTURE.

SOURCE: B0012 SAYS FRONTAL PASSENGER DEPLOYMENT LOOP. WHAT

B0012 is a fault on the DRIVERS side, you sure you read the code right?
If it is a B0012 then any of the wiring could be suspect the coil or the air bag it's self. I have seen a couple of cars coming with this code and I found the wires coming out of the air bag in the steering wheel to be rubing where they go through the steering wheel into the colume, may want to check there first.
Report back if the code is something else so we can try and assist you.

SOURCE: I've got a CEL P0420 code on a 96 Civic.

This code can mean any of the following and not a necessarily bad catalytic converter

A code P0420 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • Leaded fuel was used where unleaded was called for
  • An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
  • The engine coolant temperature sensor is not working properly
  • Damaged or leaking exhaust manifold / catalytic converter / exhaust pipe
  • Retarded spark timing
  • The oxygen sensors in front and behind the converter are reporting too similar of readings
Check the following
  • Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required.
  • Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady).
  • Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary
  • Replace the catalytic converter

Mr. Can you tell me what a 51 code is on my 92 Dodge Dakota LE 3.9?

For 1986 and later models, code 51 is triggered when the engine has been running lean for more than 11 minutes, 55 seconds, as reported to the computer by the oxygen sensor (O2); and code 52 is triggered when the engine has been running rich for more than 11 minutes, 55 seconds. The power limited light will not be lit in either case.
If the condition which causes code 51 or 52 continues for four times the time it took to set the code (roughly 48 minutes), the engine will run in closed loop mode, which forces it to run rich, preventing it from running lean (running lean can cause severe damage). During closed loop, the logic module continues to monitor the O2 sensor. I suggest you replace the O2 sensor.

2010 dodge journey 3.5 liter stays in open loop mode all the time runs horrible

To go into closed loop the computer needs to see engine coolant at operating temperature and rapidly changing oxygen sensor signals. So check the O2 sensor readings. The sensors have a built in heater so they can start reading faster. If the heater isn't working, they'll be slow to read. Also, a stuck open thermostat can delay closed loop

Why is my check engine light coming back on after ive alredy replaced o2 sensor (bank 1)?

The oxygen sensor regulates the fuel mixture, coming into the combustion chamber for combustion" The computer takes its cues from the O2 sensor and responds by changing the fuel mixture. This produces a corresponding change in the O2 sensor reading. A bad coolant sensor can also prevent the system from going into closed loop because the computer also considers engine coolant temperature when deciding whether or not to go into closed loop. i believe the coolant temperature sensor is faulty.have it change so that the system will be close loop.

I have a 89 buick electra 98000 miles I failed emissions for high co at idle I put a obd1 tester on it it showed vehicle was not going into closed loop I replaced oxygen sensor it then went into closed...

to stay in close loop o2 sensor have to be hot
and the converter catalyst is the one who keep the heat......
converter is it factory or never been change.
with scanner obd1 you should see the voltage variation of o2 sensor. it should go from lean to rich . .500mv is the middle then under .500mv is lean and over it is rich.......with this information ecm correct the fuel delivery
hope it helps

1996 grand cherokee starts fine and runs great the first 5 minutes. Then it runs like ****..doesn't completely stall but runs really rough. Like it wants to stall but doesn't. Replaced the fuel pump and...

First thing is; When you changed the fuel pump, did you compare the 2 to see if they were identicle?, because it's possible that you could have the wrong fuel pump.. Second; you should have changed the fuel filter when you changed the pump, if not? you need to put a new fuel filter on... Third... It is possible for the upper o2 sensor, because on your Jeep, you have an OBD II system, which is, ( On Board Diagnostics II) and that system uses two "o2" sensors; One before the catalytic converter and one after the converter. The Primary o2 sensor is the one before the converter; The secondary o2 sensor, or catalyst monitor, is located after the catalytic converter.
The two o2 sensors work on an "open loop and closed loop". When the motor is cold, the o2 sensors are in open loop, which means they are not being used to monitor the exhaust gas, and when the motor warms up- after 5 minutes or so, then the computer switches to "Closed loop" and the o2 sensors are then used to monitor the exhaust gasses, so it is possible that your primary o2 sensor, or the one before the catalytic converter is bad.... But! It's very rare for both o2 sensors to go out at the same time.... I hope that answers your question & gives you an idea of how the o2 sensors work in conjunction with the fuel injection system.

Oxygen sensor heater control circuit, low voltage bank 1 sensor 1 p0031 code. will this make it hard to start?

yes and also may make it run rough or lack power. the o2 sensors tell the computer how to make the engine run

You might start considering the PROM as these values and other parameters could be incorrect within the chip programming especially with Banks add ons.Another item,EGR could be agressive and delivering too much flow causing uncontrollable lean mixtures that put you into open loop.Check all other outboard sensors such as Temp-MAP which could take your system into open loop as well as o2's which you are aware of.It is possible for o2's to be giving false values...good luck

Same error codes keep reappearing P0125, P1135,P0171and P1130

It seems this is a fuel problem from the description I get on my scanner for these codes. Is there any way I can get a more in depth explanation than just what shows on the scanner exp. (P0125 closed loop fuel insufficent coolant temp).Changing gas cap and plug wires solved nothing. P-0125 indicates that your thermostat is sticking open. The engine is not warming up enough to change from OPEN loop to CLOSED loop. P-0171 indicates that you have a dirty MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. Replace the thermostat, and clean the MAF. Then clear the codes and drive it, and recheck for any codes.
