Before I start let me stress that unless your are ABSOLUTELY, 100% certain you are looking at the correct receptacle, DO NOT add fluid. There are also receptacles for Brake Fluid and Windshield Washer fluid. If you mix ANY of these up you will create a disastrous, possibly fatal situation. Do not guess! Also, there are different types of steering fluid so you MUST be certain you are using the correct type.

Somewhere under the hood, usually near the area right in front of the steering wheel, should be a boxy looking receptacle with either a screw top or a flip up cap. It should be clearly marked with raised letters "Steering Fluid." When you remove the cap there should be an embossed line indicating the maximum fluid level.

SOURCE: location of power steering fluid

The resovior is on the drivers side near the fender, it has a green cap on it. Use only VW fluid or you will have huge problems.

SOURCE: 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette ABS Light is on and

The first thing i would check is all 4 abs sensors at the wheels. You can do this with a volt meter set on ac voltage and spin the wheel if it generates voltage at all on the meter its good.

SOURCE: lower intake manifold gasket leaking 02 Olds Silhouette

This is basicly a very time consuming job rather than a physically hard one to complete. In order to replace the gasket you must remove the intake plenum, throttle body, and misc. vacuum hoses. The wiring harness connections must also be disconnected. Finally the intake manifold is exposed. The bolts holding the manifold to the block are removed exposing the leaking gasket. After removing the push rods and placing them in the correct order to be replaced the gasket and sealants can be removed. Finally replace everything in reverse order. Be sure to consult a GM manual for correct bolt torch specs. The correct specs for the manifold bolts usually come with the gasket. Make sure to change your oil a few times after this job in case any coolant entered the block. Also, change the thermostat and the oil seal on the distributor half shaft cap while you have everything off. Good Luck

SOURCE: passat 2002 v6 steering fluid deposit

Oops, sorry about that.....

The power steering fluid reservoir is located just behind the drivers (LHD) headlight, just forward of the washer fluid reservoir.

The reservoir has a green cap on it and a plastic trim panel to conceal the sides, it is circled here:

Can't get rid of Power Steering noise on my 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette

You haven't described the noise or whether the noise increases when the pump is under load, or perhaps that is the only time it makes a noise?

As you undoubtedly know some noise is natural when a fluid is being forced through hoses and orifices under great pressure and some systems are noisier than others, especially when the steering is on full lock and all the surplus pressure is diverted through the relief valve.

Perhaps there is an inherent fault that is causing the fluid to become aerated or perhaps it is something more basic and the drive pulley alignment is off.
Perhaps it is a matter of poor routing of hoses and pipes transmitting normal noise into the body and amplifying it.

I believe there are additives available that can help lessen some of the noises of complaining oil.

Where do i put the power steering fluid on a 1998 olds silhouette

This one is hidden fairly well. It took me a minute to find it. It is located on the passenger side of the engine fairly high up just to the left of the gray plastic cover. There may be a wiring harness covering the lid. Another way to find it is to find the washer fluid cap. Go 6 inches to the right (towards the drivers side) and 3 inches towards the back of the vehicle. Good luck.

Power steering is gone

that would be the pump. Try checking the fluid and adding some. If that don't help then you will need a knew pump.
