SOURCE: 95 jeep grand cherokee won't go back into 2wd.

Stick it in 2wd. Now back it up a good bit. Now pull it forward. Now make a turn. If it lurches, then repeat.

After this, check your tires. If the tires are different sizes. or the front is worn more than the rear, or even if they're different manufacturers, or if the tire pressure is low, then these could all be reasons that the transfer case is getting confused and is finding it hard to come out of 4wd.

This is assuming that the transfer case is in good working order and has the correct amount and type of fluid in it.

SOURCE: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Shifting Problems

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

I shifted my 2002 grand Cherokee Laredo sport from 2 whl to 4 whl and now it seems to be stuck in 4 whl when I shift back to 2 whl drv?

its grand cherokee, WJ jeep

if it has quadradrive,
its full time
but do no use 4wd low on pavement with no ice
got this, see the words there?
http://jeepdied.com/QD.JPG

it can also have quadra-trac2, but it has same rules.
missing 4wd low. requires no driver inputs.
(means full time)

first learn what is there (they are options,)
this 4wd system
then look it up
here and read

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_four-wheel-drive_systems

post a photo of your stick shifts, related
and its obvious what your car had new, in 4wd.

ok.
check all fuses
then scan it.
using any OBD2 scan tool, modern.
that is first.
if the scans tell you there are problems
then work them or ask for help
or read the service manual on 4wd diagnosis.
or get it serviced.

2002 jeep grand cherokee owners manual

the 2002 grand Cherokee WJ jeep,
can be quada-drive ?
or quadra-trac- II NV247 (transfer case)
regardless of that...

stay out of 4wd low,
use low only on ice or dirt, dead slow.
it will grind a bit going into low.
low is never to be used on dry pavement.
dry means, no ice.
the book on car is clear, its for rock crawling off road only. (super low speed)
, put at least on tire on dirt then drive slow and shift out of 4wd LOW, lock,.
if not, damage to the drive line can happen
do not attempt this moving fast ever, (into or out of LOW)

RTM, read it 2 times.

98 Grand cherokee all time 4x4 wont shift into 4 lo

older post 1month
you failed to say what tires are touching, dry pavement or ice/snow or off road...... MATTERS big time.......!

the operators guide tells you not to do that.
the rules for 4Hi and low are different. RTM? yet?
last year ZJ
Quadra-Trac(tm) NV242 box. it is. full and part time box.
what does it (oper guide)tell you.
stay out of part time on dry roads. (clear?)
rule 2, save rule for Low Range.
low range is not full time 4wd.
if you fail to believe it , it will wind up and go crunch

here is the direct quote.... see last line,,, its 100% real.

25794037-bn3fg1eepmrl330iewfulw43-1-0.jpg i you had the NV231 box, all gears are Part time, all 4wd gears stay off dry pavement.

Jeep 2002 Grand laredo have delay shifting gear

Have you checked the trans fluid? Has to be checked with engine running in neutral. If its good you will need to bring it to a transmission shop. Good luckHowie

How to shift from 2wheel drive to any of the 4 wheel drive modes thank you

if I'm not mistaken, it has the shifter for the 4wd just to the left of the gear shift? In that case, the best way it to stop, put the gear shift in Neutral, then place the 4wd selector in your mode of choice.

Eratic shifting of gears at speeds of 55 to 75

I would check the transmission fluid level and color, should be a nice clear red color. You may need to have the filter replaced. Possibly some internal transmission problem also.

How do i engage 4wd in a 2003 jeep grand cherokee?

Jeep transfer cases are designed to be engaged when rolling from 3mph and up...low range should only be selected at low speed (around 3mph). Don't attempt to shift unless vehicle is moving...gears will not mesh properly. Try to find a manual to get the specifics of all variations of using the shift combinations available. (many times can be found in the gloveboxes of vehicles in scrapyards...just ask!

Jeep 4wd auto trans

while moving about 2-5 mph, shift your transmission into neutral but keep the vehicle rolling, then move the transfer case shift from 4HI to 2HI.
