I would think the mechanic had checked for codes or history of codes. If the cause is a defective converter there is not a lot you can do except replace. You cannot repair a catylitic converter.

SOURCE: 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Hi Guys!
I work in a transmission and torque converter remanufacturing plant and have seen this many times! I hate to tell you that your transmission is shot! There is metal in the fluid and some of it got caught in a solenoid not letting fluid through to shift the gears. You will need a rebuild! About $2500 dollars. Of course if you in Pittsburgh, Pa. area I could do it for about half that. Any questions e-mail me at [email protected]

SOURCE: My sunroof is stuck open on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo? Would it be a fuse? If so, how do you change it?

Check the fuses under the dash on the drivers side, next to the steering column. There should be a fuse puller on the fuse box door. Also a chart of which fuses at what so you can go to the proper fuse. Good luck, Please let me know if this is the solution to your problem.

SOURCE: steering wheel shakes at 50 mph sometimes

HI, this could possibly just be a simple as a set of bad steer tires. make sure the front tires are balanced and you front end has been properly aligned recently.

Now, if the tires are new or, they have been rotated and balanced properly recently, i would then move on to the alignment process. if you front steering Assembly has been aligned properly and, you still have this shaking at 50 mph, this will confirm a more serious issue concerning the power steering gear. i would then check the tie rod ends for ware in this case.

next, check the idler arms as well. make sure the intermediate shaft is tight and, the entire rack or, circulating ball Assembly is tight and, not loose.

SOURCE: 94 jeep grand cherokee laredo v8 5.2l automatic.

You can check fluid level by removing the rubber plug in the cover. Fluid is full when on level ground, it is just at the edge of the hole (or very close) if you are already getting noises out of there, you can remove the cover and inspect gears for wear or breakage. If you find a large amount of metal debris in the lube it tells you something bad is going on back there. Although rebuildable, it's not a home job...requires exact settings in order to operate properly. You can find good units far cheaper than even a gearset costs in any scrapyard. to match ratio, count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. the replacement MUST have the exact same number. Before swapping diffs, check all back there to make sure noise is not from somewhere else.

How many o2 sensors on the 05 grand jeep Laredo 3.7 are upstream and downstream sensors the same?

The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L typically has two oxygen (O2) sensors. One is located upstream (before the catalytic converter), often referred to as the pre-cat or upstream sensor, and the other is located downstream (after the catalytic converter), known as the post-cat or downstream sensor. In many cases, the upstream and downstream sensors are not the same and serve different purposes in monitoring and optimizing the air-fuel mixture and emissions.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 wont go over 25 mph. There are no fault codes.

First eliminate the fuel flow, replace the fuel filter. It starts and runs, pump is OK. Then I would go back to the exhaust. Remove an O2 sensor before the catalytic converter. One is fine. It will be louder. If it runs better at picks up speed, then the cats are clogging up.

1999 grand cherokee laredo overheating when idling for 15 min. or so. Not when driving, everything ok. radiator replaced about 8-9 months ago, water pump pretty new, and extra electric fan worked on about...

Chanches are it is probably the fan. Anything over 15 miles an hour the fan is no longer needed. I would get a cheap hydrometer and make sure your antifreeze is still good.

2000 jeep cherokee 4.0......new water pump, radiator, thermostat, coolant system is full....now it is overheating again....hard starting and idles very rough...I think the catalytic converter may be...

the main symtom of a bad converter is. you can push pedal to floor and only go about 15 mph, if it is clogged up. the car will idle well but no power at all. the fist thing is overheating usually from misfiring spark plugs, and burns out the mechanisms inside. Catalytic converters are not designed to handle the heat of burning fuel; when fuel starts to burn in the converter, it can cause a great deal of damage to the converter and the rest of the exhaust system. One of the noticeable symptoms of overheating in the converter is a significant loss of power from the engine.
