You cannot adjust the idle speed. The issue is either a bad ildle air speed control or the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel injection rail.

SOURCE: high idle and engine getting hot

most common thing for this is either a failed coolant temp sensor that is not telling the computer that the car is warmed up and it is still running at cold Idle speed adn the code will tell you that.
Or a vacuum leak and the computer is trying to make up for the leak my making changes to the fuel deliery to keep the engine running .
If you find this information helpful please give me a fixya! Rating and if you need more help on this problem please contact me.

The only way to find out what code is stored in the computer and what turned the check engine light on is with an OBDII scan tool and also the only way to turn off the light but just turning off gthe light does not fix the problem, as soon as the computer does it checks again and you have completed the predetermined dive cycles the light will return so the only way to keep the light off is to properly repair the reason it was commanded on in the first place!

SOURCE: tps voltage high

is the tps adjustable on set screws? is something holding the throttle plate open a bit? throttle bore gummed up? a normal tps sweep is about .6 with throttle closed and about 5 volts wide open throttle(key on/engine off) 2nd check for vacuum leaks. what about mass airflow readings?

SOURCE: High Idle speed on 1989 Merc Sable, 3.0L V-6. Approx 2000 RPM

My wife had a 93 ford tempo 4 cylinder with same problem. It turned out to be the idle air solenoid mounted on the air intake manifold.

SOURCE: idle at 1500 to 2000 rpm

Most likely the throttle body gasket (between the throttle body and the intake manifold) is leaking.

High idle after engine is warm. nothing is sticking with linkage.1992 chev k1500 5.7

Make sure the idle screw was not turnned causeing tps sensor to read over the spec limit, the next then is to make sure the idle air control valve is working , a bad valve will cause this problem and last is the stepper motor that controls the idle. some of these around this year used steeper idle control motors instead of idle air control valves and in turn the stepper motor is bad it will hold the throtle plate open to much causing the tps reading to be wrong triggering the engine light to come on. the steeper motor will be boltted to side of the throtlebody and theres a small arm to the throtle linkage. i will enclose a stepper motor picture and an idle air valve to show you, but this sounds like the tps is out of range due to this. the last thing is to make sure there are no vacuum leaks, spray crab cleaner around throtlebody base gasket and also the intake mounting gasket and see if the idle changes is so theres a vac leak in that area. good day. okay just did a little research and this truck does have a idle air control valve, the picture is encolsed and is screwed into throtlebody, check that and for vacuum leaks, make sure tps is good sometime it will test good when testing and go bad when it wants, you could have a bad tps and idle air control valve also.11_27_2011_9_27_54_pm.jpg

My cars Idle RPM often remains high in the range of 1500 - 2000 and ocassionally Check Engine light comes on, However Check Engine Light dissapear as soon as cars moves on engine power. Did some one has...

a better question is why is idle so high? could be a vaccum leak or other issue. Adjusting the idle circuit is not the answer. Since the check engine light did come on perhaps you can retrieve a trouble code...maybe even a bad tps

2000 Saturn LS, high idle durning cold weather. (2500 rpm)

Scan for codes, post any that are found, it could be a bad TPS sensor. Could also be a build up of carbon on the top (valve) portion of the engine. Try a few cans of "Sea Foam" through the intake manifold.
