SOURCE: 96 lexus es 300 blinking check engine light

Hi there;

#4 Miss-fire. All the things you are saying make a lot of sense. When the light is blinking the cylinder is actualy misfiring, & the smell you are smelling is the fuel that is not burning in the engine burning in the exahst. This can cause a lot of damage to the exausht if it is not repaired..
There is still a couple of things that need to be checked, first he needs to check to see if it is possibly a fuel injector that is sticking. He can do this easily by moving the #4 injector to another cylinder & run the car. When it starts missfiring he will need to see if it is still #4 or if it is the cylinder that he moved the injector to. if it is the new cylinder it is obviously the injector, if it is still #4 he will need to look into the possibility of the EGR valve sticking open or some other issue to do with valve timing or low compression.
I hope this helps
Farrout!

Unscrew the gas cap, wait 30 sec and screw it back on making 3 clicks/cracks. Should be ok in a day or two.

SOURCE: trac off and check engine light for lexus es 300

A week ago, on my Lexus ES 300 (2001), "Check Engine" and "Trac Off" lights came on. This coincided with me filling the gas tank to the brim to round the dollar to be paid. I cleaned the gas tank cap and the tank opening. However, both lights persisted. On the same day, when I turned on the car again, there was a hesitance, a stuttering to come on. Both "Check Engine" and "Trac Off" lights were still on.

The next day, the car wouldn't come on at all. It sounded as the battery was dead. I couldn't even jump start the car. So, I got a new battery from Costco ($59) and put it in. It took 15-20 seconds of cranking to get the car started. Once it was started, the engine sounded fine and the RPM normal. The "Check Engine" light was off. However, the "Trac Off" was still on. I cleaned the gas tank cap one more time.

The next morning, when I turned the car on, there was no problems. It came on instantly as it used to be, didn't have any warning lights, and drove smoothly.

SOURCE: how to replace third brake light on 1997 lexus es 300

"To get access to the 3rd brake light:

- Place each hand against both sides of the plastic housing, and firmly grasp and pull the housing towards you. It might not budge at first, but it should move once you get a good grip on it.

- Pull the housing out just enough so that you can see the brake light bulb and stick your hand underneath. Ignore the speaker wires.

- Pull out the old bulb from the socket (it plugs in/out). Wear rubber gloves when handling the new bulb, and put the new one into the socket.

- Reverse the steps here to put the 3rd brake light back into place. Test out your brake light, and you're done" quoted from lexusk8 @ clublexus.com (great forum)

My 1992 lexus es 300 jerks when taking of after that it drives fine what could it be

My first hypothesis: Low or dirty transmission fluid may cause a lag on acceleration (due to inadequate pressure at idle), followed by a jerk as the transmission is forced to catch up to the engine.

I have a 1997 Lexus ES 300 it smokes at start and when I excel

It sounds like the oil rings are worn, this means that when you park up at night the oil seeps through to the top of the piston causing it to ssmoke on start up... the only real cure is for the engine to be stripped down and new rings fitted...this isn't cheap keep talking to the dealership.. they should be able to get a pressure test done this will tell you if it is a ring or not.... hope this helps

Intermitent electrical shut off

Asked a local independent Toyota/Lexus repair shop.

He suggested checking battery cables at both ends to assure tight fit.

Positive cable was ever so slightly loose.

Tightened all cables. Will see if that solves problem.

My 93 Lexus ES 300 has miss while idling.

the ignition coil is very easy to replace it would be located on the side of the car chasis next to the engine and would have one cable coming from it with a couple of wires leading to it that would affect the acceleration to a certain degree
