Use a good scan tool to monitor vehicle parameters when trying to start and when the vehicle is running,this should give you direction to the problem area.

If your Santa Fe has a V6 engine 2.7L , it sounds like you have an ignition break down happening. You will need to renew all the ignition wires and check the two coils also for arcing .

If you live in the US, take it to qany Auto Zone store and thy will read the codes off for you, I would suspect any right thinking competitor would do the same, check if you don't have one near by.
