I have a Cadillac Deville 2001 shaking could it be tires?or engine mounts Are shocks also a possible problem ? Too many mechanics all have different thoughts on engine any help is greatly appreciated

Recently the water pump way replaced along with the thermostat. About 3 weeks later it started to shake as if it could be a tire however rather than replace tires and the issue is not resolved I have no clue about anything dealing with cars. What is the most likely source of the problem?

Hi Sara Jean, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
    What is shaking exactly. ?
If it is the steering then wheel balancing could be a cause. Little weights are placed on the rim if you wheels to balance the wheel. If you hit the curb while parking you can lose a weight and lose the balance of the wheel .
Other steering wheel shake of a remote cause is the back shock absorbers or springs in the suspension.

Is the engine shaking.....or the car shaking when you drive it? If it's the car shaking when driving then it's likely tires at fault...BALANCE.

Is the steering shaking ?
wheel balancing of tyre or
Side wall of a tyre .- may look ok but if tyre is old but not worn on the tread a situation I have had is the steel belt separates from the rubber in the tyre and the side wall of tyre bulges. this causes a really good vibrate of the steering wheel.
Back shocker absorbers or leaf springs in rear. check if back of car is lower than it should be.

cheap option to try is to swap the front tyres with the back tyres. A tyre place could do this for you if you are not confident in doing this . it is known as tyre rotation .

Check the ball joints and cv axles this could cause the car to shake violently and most tire stores will check them for you for free.

SOURCE: front end shaking

I had the same problem on a 2003 Kia Sedona where the front end would vibrate excessively while accerating at freeway speeds. Over time it got worse and was noticable at lower and lower speeds and while just maintaining speed, but went away when I took my foot off the gas.

It turned out to be the inner CV joint on the passenger side. You can check for this by grabbing the inner and outer half axels with large vice grips or slip-joint pilers and turning them in opposite directions while listening for crunching or "loose parts" noises.

The CV is sold with the axle so I just bought the outer half axle for $80 (which has the inner and outer CV joints attached) and replaced it. If you do it yourself, make sure you have a ball spline fork, a hub puller tool, and a big torque wrench for putting the bearing assembly back on. You can rent these at AutoZone.

The bad CV joint also caused the bearing to go bad. It had burn marks and made a grinding noise while turning. It was very hard to get out, so I had to take the assembly to a machine shop to have it taken out and the new one put in. $35 for bearing and $30 for machine shop work.

After repair, I took an 800 mile road trip that weekend with no problems other than barely noticable vibration from the driver side at 70+ mph. I figure vibration was so bad pre-repair that it messed up something on the other side as well, so I'll check out the driver side bearing and CV when I get a chance.

Where is the location of rear shock leveler

Put rear of car on stands, look at rear axle on both sides near shock lower mount. You should see a small metal link and rod which goes up to the switch.

Right front tire seems to wobble, shaking. Engine area of car shaking over 55. Mech friend says it's the rotor. Worried about driving.

A bad rotor would only cause a shake when you are using the brakes. A bad tire could shake at 55mph and above.
I would get a second opinion to make sure.
The shop could rotate the tires and see if the vibration moves to a different area of the car.

have the tires checked asap, also it might have some front end linkage wear .. you can check the tires yourself by jacking the car and checking them one at a time and spinning it and checking it to be round.. cady shocks are costly and the tires must be in good shape to stop excessive wear and a out of round tire will destroy a shock absorber in no time flat..you can take it to several tire shops and ask for a estimate ..jay the pool motor repair guy florida .. did you vote for your favorite fixya guy ?

My shocks dropped on my cadillac i'm trying to see if they are electronic it's a 2001 deville

They are air shocks. Could be a number of things. Compressor could have gone out. Blown fuse or relay controling compressor. Take to a Mechanic and have them run a diagnostic check on it. Most places will do for free as long as its not a dealer.
