Most likely or possibly a piece of carbon has lodged under a valve or in the spark plug gap. Remedy run combustion cleaner through engine. Follow the directions on the container. Costs about 6 dollars. Try it.

SOURCE: Ford thunderbird wont start in Cold weather

change distributor cap first and see how it goes could have a crack in it.Failing which you need to test the ignition module when its cold as sometimes a component will break down and not work when its cold ,this is very much a hands on type job so if dist cap doesnt cure it call a mobile mechanic

SOURCE: Car sputters at start up in wet or damp weather

spray your distributor wires and cap with silicone spray. If this does not work you will have to replace distributor cap as it will have a hair line crack in it.

Testimonial: "Thank you. That was my 1st thought, but never got past the "thought" part of the process yet. This helps, I will try this and supply feedback. Thanks!"

SOURCE: My 1998 VW Jetta TDI (230,000 miles) recently

sluggish/cold start "problems"with any VW group product can be put down,in a lot of cases,to dirty injector nozzles, use redexe/wynns injector cleaner at 1 can to 1/2 tank fuel and you will feel a difference.as for the oil,VW group, use 10/40 semi synthetic in ALL their engines.(except w12 0/40)using a thin oil would pass the rings/valve guides and cause a carbon buildup inside the chamber......try it and see.....

Miss fires catholitic converyor gloss red

Your cat is plugged, its not letting your exhaust leave the engine thus causing all these problems. You need to get it changed as soon as possible. You can get a shop to put in a universal one they are usually very cheep but do it soon. They can get hot enough to start a fire as you have already seen.
