How can i find out the cause of that weakness? the only major problem i recently fixed was the timing belt and apart from that the bold tyres which made the car woble.

SOURCE: Removing Camshaft pulley on 2.5 Dohc forester motor

To replace the timing belt back guard you will have to remove both pulleys. There is a small bolt under each pulley holding the belt guard Use a large socket to hold the pulley while you break the bolt loose with a 17mm socket. I have just done this while replacing my head gaskets due to coolant boiling from the gasket leak.

SOURCE: Rattling sound when accelerating on 2007 Forester

On mine, I got under there and there are rocks rattling in the heat shield. There are factory made holes in it, and the rocks sit in there like eggs in a carton and rattle when the engine hits a certain vibration frequency which is basically when it is at a stop light or idling. The repair shop wanted to charge to cut them off but I think I am going to drill bigger holes so the rocks fall out, as they are pretty tiny.

SOURCE: 2004 subaru forester, 99,000 miles. Check engine

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the great suggestion . I'll have Autozone read the codes on Monday. Thanks again!"

SOURCE: Shaking engine, weak power, blinking check engine light

You have a bad coil pack, they usually crack from age and heat. It's best to replace them all. Check for a VW recall on this item.

What is the interval for replacing a timing belt for a 2005 subaru forester

160,000 km major service. Anything over 150,000, think about getting it done, There's a set of bearing and the hydraulic tensioner (sometimes water pump) as well that should be done at the same time.

Overheats and belt squeals and engine turns over many times before starting when weather is cold

Faulty bearings in the waterpump, or waterpump frozen due to too weak of coolent/water mixture.

2011 subaru forester front passenger seat belt is locked too tightly and will not release, how do I fix?

The reason is the belt mechanism is damaged and the belt needs to be replaced. What happens is the gears lock this usually only happens when the vehicle is in a collision or has a major and hard stop

My 98 subaru forester just began starting very weak, now today it started cutting out while running. Is this 2 different issues or the same and what could it be?

They could be seperate issues or they could be linked. It sounds asd if the alternator may be the problem. Cars start by use of the battery but run off the alternator. If the alternator is not charging the battery then the vehicle will run off the battery and continue to drain it thus causing problems with the running of the vehicle. I recommend taking the car to a major auto parts company and have them test both your battery and your alternator; the service is free and they can tell you what you need to repair the problem.

I have a 98 forester with a split in the radiator

The cooling system is under pressure, this could have been a weak spot in the radiator when it was manufactured , and over time (11 years) of being under pressure, it split open. If the car overheated for some reason, it could have caused this (pressure is higher if it overheats). You may be able to have it removed and repaired at a radiator shop, but it probably would be quicker to purchase a new one.

2003 subaru forester cranks but no fire / no start

If the timing belt is broken or has lost some teeth then you will get no fire. Some models have an inspection port that you can see the belt through. Have someone try to start engine while you watch timing belt. If belt is stationary or moves in jumps then this is your problem.
