SOURCE: rover 420 diesel battery keeps going flat

looks like you have something draining the battery (something electrical staying on) disconnect your battery negative terminal and connect a test light between the battery post and the wire clamp if the light comes on you have battery drain (make sure interior light is out when testing) you now need to go through all elctrical systems to trace the reason why ( check boot light goes out first this was a favorite cause)

SOURCE: My P38 Range Rover wont start

Hi Adam,

Bring your vehicle to an auto parts or battery store. Ask if they could perform a 'Load Check' on your battery. This not only checks the voltage, but also the amps, as if it were under the load of turning your engine.

It takes a few seconds and the results are pass or fail. Fail means it's time for a new battery. Pass means we need to look elsewhere.

Comment back the results.

Hope you find this to be very helpful

SOURCE: battery went flat now wont take key code in

key code lock out usually happens when you have entered the wrong code too many times leaving the battery connected should allow the timer to run down for 30 mins so you can try again, it is cumulative though so the more you get it wrong the longer you have to wait. make sure battery is fully charged first.

SOURCE: Wont start, until batter is fully

This sounds a lot like a bad alternator. Places like Auto Zone can do a load test on your charging system to determine if you have an issue. They do this test for free.

How do you enable a range rover engine when key battery is flat

There is a sequence of left and right turns of the key in the driver's door that will reset your bECM (Rovers brain) if the following have been tried.
1. Replace batteries in remote and 're-sync by depressing lock button on remote while physically turning and locking the door. Don't release button until locked and key removed. Repeat for unlock button.
2. Disconnect negative/earth cable from battery. While disconnected open driver's door, turn ignition to position 2, return to battery leaving driver's door open and reconnect the negative cable. Proceed to ignition. Turn off completely. Close all doors and hood and attempt starting.
Should both of these methods fail, run a search here on fixya for "engine disabled Range Rover P38" This will take you to step by step instructions on resetting the bECM which I opened this post with. It has been covered many times here, including by myself, no reason to post it again.
Good Luck!

1 Check for the "Remote Battery Low" signal message that is displayed on the vehicle's dash once the remote key battery starts to run down. Be sure to replace the battery is before it dies completely. If the battery is dead, it will not be able to start the Range Rover.
2 Buy the correct battery for replacement. Two round CR 2025 batteries are needed. You can purchase them at most major supercenters, camera stores or **** stores. They are a common size and should be readily available.
3 Use a nickel to remove the battery holder on the key remote. Turn the cover until the arrows line up and remove it. The cover fits very tightly and you may need a small screwdriver to pry it off. Remove the battery holder and circular ring from the remote. Take the old batteries out of the battery holder.
4 Place the new batteries in the battery holder. Replace the battery holder and circular ring in the key remote, aligning the arrows. Turn the cover clockwise until it is secure.
5 Resynchronize the key by simply placing the key in the door lock. Lock and unlock the door to the Range Rover and then press the remote control.

My 2003 range rover won't start radio come on lights work but the center moniter says code any ideas

No idea here to be honest i think you have two seperate problems here so firstly try entering the radio code as i think you have disconnected the battery ,now as for the non starting then look in the book that came with the vehicle and their should be a code for the key to reprogramme the immobilisor where you turn the key in the lock so many times to the left and right to release it and only these vehicles have this except some rovers which are now defunct as you no doubt know .

Define - It attempts to turn over but won't catch and run ???? When you turn the key to start does the starter engage an spin the engine ? This would be a crank no start condition . If the starter doesn't engage an spin the engine this would be a no crank no start condition . Sorry to ask but i have only been an auto tech for thirty years an have heard a lot of different discriptions for these simple actions . crank no start or no crank no start . Very different diagnostic procedures . So when you turn the key to start , does the starter engage an spin the engine ,but won't start an run ?

My 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 keeps draining the battery. This is the second time I have had to call AA to jump start me....Is this a commong problem with these cars ?

The Range Rover runs system even when you have locked the car and walked away, you can often here the fan on the computer running from inside the front wheel arch. What can happen is if there is an error caused by a faulty sensor then the computer fails to shot down and instead runs all night until the battery goes flat. Best thing is to get fault codes read and start to try and figure out what exactly is causing it to happen. I would say that this is a common problem but most people don't realise why its happened as they only realise when the car has gone flat.

My Range Rover 2.5 DSE turns over but wont catch

Is your battery good? fully charged? It could be ignition or distributor module. Might also want to check the crankshaft position sensor.Check your fuses/relays for fuel pump and make sure your fuel pump is coming on when your key is turned to the on position.

After Starting my 1998 Range Rover HSE

If you have oxygen sensors fitted to the vehicle (wires coming from front of exhaust)then the fuel could be causing the engine light to come on.SRS light is probably caused by your seat belt catch not working , you could maybe find a good used part at a breakers yard.Check that the wires are o.k before buying.
