SOURCE: radiator fans won't come on

Hey I had the same problem with my 95 olds cutlass supreme. First i checked that the fans were receiving power by testing the voltage. Then I noticed that they were recieving voltage just not coming on. When the engine temp got pretty high, they finally came on, another words the gauge could be broken or the engine just does not tell the fans to come on until it has reached a high temp. So i started the vechicle, left it in park and gave it gas until the temp guage read very high, it reached like 230 to 250 then the fans came on. Try getting the temp up there and then see if the fans come on an dlet me know at [email protected]

SOURCE: Radiator fan not operating, radiator fan relay

1f6fd51.gif

Jeep WJ Grand Cherokee

The Radiator Cooling Fan Relay Switch for a 2003 Jeep Cherokee is located behind the bumper on the passenger side underneath the headlight.
There are two ways of accessing it:
1. Remove the bumper.
2. Remove the pasenger side headlight assembly and cut a hole in the plastic underneatch click on the link below for more info.

The relay seems to be a common replacement item for this vehicle. One cause of the failure is that the relay overheats, per a note inserted in the replacement part packaging.

The cutout method is used by dealers. In one vehicle, the relay failed again after 40,000 miles or so. While replacing the relay it was noted that it was secured by one screw and it was not tight. This did not provide thermal contact with the chassis which helps cool the relay. The cause of the second failure was likely due to improper installation. Trying to work through a cutout would seem to make it difficult to get both screw isntalled securely. Furthermore, the new parts today use steel pop rivets for installation to help guarantee it will maintain proper thermal contact with the chassis. The pop rivets cannot be isntalled without removing the bumper.

It is not difficult to remove the bumper and grill to get to the relay. It sounds like a big deal but you are talking a half dozen screws and less than a dozen plastic rivets. The act of cutting a hole and working in cramped quarters has to be more difficult and it does not provide as quality a job.

Hope help with this (remember rated this post).

SOURCE: My 2000 lincoln ls cooling fan will not turn on.

Radiator cooling fan is not electric, it is driven by a silly hydraulic pump which is located low on the passenger side of the engine above the alternator. All 2000-2002 LS's have this system. Most likely either the motor or pump has failed.

Why does my fan keep running in my 2003 Volvo S 60 after the car is off?

It can be faulty fan relay. The relay is not turning the system off.Or its wire short issue.Even with ignition off ,the fan relay is getting power so its not letting the fan to turn off.Bypass the fan control relay and see if still the fan works with ignition off or not.

Year 2000 bmw 316i radiator fan not working

I am at a bit of a disadvantage here as I have never seen a 316 and my books and parts lists don't cover it, but here goes.
I expect that your car has only an electric fan, right? And you have already checked the fuses, right?
That fan should turn on low speed when the A/C compressor is running, or on low speed when the radiator gets to a certain temperature, or on high speed then the radiator gets really hot.
There should be a temperature sensor somewhere in one of the end-tanks on the radiator. If it has three wires, the switch is inside the sensor. The switch plug will have a ground wire and two wires that go to relays. The switch will ground one of the relay wires depending on the temperature. Grounding that wire activates a relay which turns on the fan.
With the key ON, If you unplug the sensor and ground each of the two relay wires to the ground wire in the plug (ground is usually brown on a BMW), you may be able to turn on the fan. If both speeds work, the problem is your temperature sensor. If only the high speed works, the problem is either the relay or the resistor in the fan. Most often, it is the relay. I don't know which relay it is on a 316, but the relay may click when you trigger it at the temperature sensor plug, even though it has failed. If it clicks, you can find it by the sound it makes.
