SOURCE: location of ignition control module

It does not have an ignition control module.
The electronic ignition (EI) for the 4.0L engine consists of the following components:
Crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) and 36 minus 1 tooth trigger wheel.
Ignition coil .
powertrain control module (PCM) .
Related wiring.
The PCM controls the firing of the coil based on the signal from the crankshaft position sensor.
The crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) is a variable reluctance-type sensor, triggered by a 36 minus 1 tooth trigger wheel configuration machined into the rear of the crankshaft vibration damper. The signal generated by this CKP sensor is called a CKP signal. The CKP signal provides the base timing and rpm information to the powertrain control module (PCM). Base timing is set at 10 degrees BTDC and is not adjustable.
If vehicle has no spark then turn key to on position, check engine light should come on.As you start cranking engine it should go out while cranking after about 10 secs. it should come back on(while cranking). If it come on then the PCM sees the signal,if it does not then PCM is not seeing it and this is your problem, either the CKP sensor or the wiring to it.

SOURCE: where is the ignition module control located on 1996 ranger 2.3 e

It does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it recieves from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.

What is and where is the pcm on a 2.0 ford escort engine

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects the engine operating and driving conditions, along with the exhaust gas oxygen content. Various switches, sensors and components provide the PCM with information which allows it to control the air/fuel ratio (mixture), emissions and drivability.

To get to the PCM you would have to remove the parking brake and shift consoles and then the gearshift knob and and boot...I know, GREAT place to put a part needing to be serviced!

Need help finding the ignition module on a 97 ford crown victoria

There is no ignition module. The ignition coils are controlled directly by the Powertrain control module (computer) located inside the vehicle above the drivers left foot and connected to the engine wiring harness thru the firewall

Where is the airbag diagnostic module on my 1996 aerostar? getting code 51

The code you have indicates that the internal fuse in the airbag control module has been blown; this happens automatically when a short to ground occurs in one of the airbag circuits in the vehicle. This is a safety feature designed to prevent injuries due to accidental deployment of the airbag due to an electrical fault; the module blows the fuse intentionally to disable the system. the fuse is not serviceable; a new airbag module must be installed after the short to ground has been located and repaired. The air bag diagnostic module is located at the center of the dash panel, below the integrated control panel

I have fuel pressure but the engine wont start unless i spray starting fluid into the intake. the injectors arent working? could it be the pcm is bad?

Not likely. I believe the injectors have 12 volts going to them all the time. The PCM then grounds them so they operate when the crankshaft or camshaft sensor tell the PCM when the cylinder is on compression stroke.

I would check for an injector fuse first (see owner manual), and then check to see if you have a bad crank or camshaft sensor.

The PCM very rarely fails.

Section 03-14: Engine Controls, Electronic 1994 All Aerostar, Ranger, and Explorer Vehicles Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Powertrain Control Module (PCM) The center of the EEC-IV system is a microprocessor called the powertrain control module . It receives data from various sensors:
  • Throttle position sensor (TP sensor) (9B989)
  • Mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) (12B579)
  • Intake air temperature sensor (IAT sensor) (12A697)
  • Engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT sensor) (12A648)
  • Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (9F472)
  • Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
  • Crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) (6C351)
  • Power Steering Pressure (PSP) Switch
The powertrain control module contains specific calibrations for optimizing emissions controls, fuel economy, and driveability. Based on information received and programmed into its memory, the processor sends signals to control various actuators:
  • Fuel injector nozzle tip (9E527)
  • Ignition coil (12029)(s)
  • Idle air control valve (IAC valve) (9F715)
  • Ignition control module (ICM) (12A297)
  • EGR vacuum regulator control (9J459)
  • EGR external pressure valve (9F483)
