I have a 2011 SRX. The hood latches and releases ok, but the hood has about 1/4" of movement when latched.

At highway speed you can see some up and down movement. Is there an adjustment that needs to be made?

Yes its adjustable look for the bolts that mount the latch to the vehicle in the center front .Line it up with the catch on the hood .It likely needs some lubrication and it slide down. Also the cable release can be a problem if the cable stretches because the latch isn't moving freely it might not be completely clamping down on the catch. However the main problem is lubrication its got to move freely if the cable is stretched you can take a cable tie put it at the contact point of the cable at the latch and take up some space to tighten up the cable slack.

Try smacking down on the hood with a open hand. You may want to have someone inside to pull the lever while you hit on the hood.If you do get it open spray everthing down with a good lubicant.Well good luck and hope this helped.

Why won't the hood latch all the way?

Try using lubricant on the latch, if that isn't making a difference look closely at the latch mechanism for anything that looks obviously broken. if nothing looks broken try lifting the hood and then prop it up. pull the hood release again and try to close. let me know if you get it latched

How can i open a hood laych that want let the hood cloes

Quite often the hood latch will not release for one of two reasons. Firstly, the latch is gummed up with old grease, and secondly the cable is kinked and does not release the latch. I is also possible that the latch is damaged, possibly at one time the hood was forced down at a slight angle which could damage the latch.
First, check the cable. Unhook the cable from the latch by pressing the latch back as far as possible with a tool and unhooking the cable. Let an assistant pull the hood release inside the vehicle and feel if the cable moves in freely and you can easily pull it back by hand. If not, replace the cable. Do NOT close the hood while you have the cable out!
Next, check the latch for free movement. If ally is well the only other problem is the bullet hook on the hood itself which may be either loose or adjusted in too far,

Broken hood release latch

Well, hard to tell the exact cause without seeing it, but if you mean the hood latch itself, you may have to reach up from under the engine bay and release it manually, remove it and replace it, any good auto parts store would have or could order one. If it's the cable, you could try pulling it with vise grips or pliers - assuming it's even reachable. Best case scenario, the release handle has just separated from the cable, could be re-attached or replaced easily enough. If you manage to open the hood, get someone to pull the release a few times so you can find the cable, follow it both ways and you may find the problem. Wish I could be more help, good luck.

I need to open the hood but the battery is dead the hood rerlease latch doesn't work bease there is o power.

The hood release latch is not run by the battery. there will be a hood release at bottom left of steering wheel. may be two levers. one will be for the hood and the other may be for the fuel door. Your hood is definitely is not open with power. e7b4ea09-a41c-4b55-b94c-260b24f79b4e.png

Hood won t close

Check out the cable connection between the latch and your internal latch control. Till you locate the problem I would suggest tying down the hood with some sort of strap so it does not pop open at speed.

My honda odyssey 2002 hood latch stuck it opened the hood and now not closing even droping the hood from difference hight and even pressing it ???

SOUND LIKE YOUR HOOD LATCH IS STUCK IN THE RELEASE POSITION. YOU CAN DO TWO THINGS. REPLACE YOUR HOOD LATCH OR PUSH THE LATCH BACK INTO POSITION MANUALLY EVERYTIME YOU OPEN YOUR HOOD. IT'S EASY. FIRST CHECK YOUR HOOD RELEASE LEVER (DRIVER SIDE KICK PANEL)AND MAKE SURE IT'S MOVING FREELY. IF LEVER IS OK,GO TO YOUR HOOD LATCH. LOOK TO THE RIGHT OF THE LATCH (LOOK DOWN FROM THE TOP VIEW)AND YOU'LL SEE A SMALL METAL BAR WITH A SPRING PULLING DOWN ON IT(MIGHT NEED FLASH LIGHT TO SEE BAR AND SPRING). TAKE A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER AND PUSH DOWN ON THE METAL BAR WHERE SPRING CONNECT. THE BAR SURE MOVE ABOUT 1/4 INCH DOWN. CLOSE YOU HOOD AND YOU'RE DONE. YOU JUST HAVE TO PUSH THE BAR DOWN EVERYTIME YOU OPEN IT.

Hood latch release inside cable will not realease hood

The cables and latch become dirty and corroded, and the spring wrapped cabbles can even rust on the inside.
The cable itself may have broke.
if you are able you can lay down under the front reach up through the grill and you just have to feel your way take a short screw driver and feel where the cable connects to the latch, use the screwdriver for a lever and pry the latch open.
once it is open have someone pull the release and watch for movement,if it does clean the latch ,spray cable lube into the cable while moving.
then adjust the latch a little, not to much at a time or the hood will be loose.
Of course if there is no movement in the cable it means its broke and will have to be replaced

Pulling the hood latch handle does not release the hood on a 98 Volvo v70, it is not out of adjustment because the cable broke from the latch and pulling the cable itself with vice grips does nothing,...

Outer sheath of release cable has perished. You need to disconnect the cable from the inside , hold the end of cable with pliers and push forward the outer sheath with v shaped tool eg clawhammer and there will be movement of the cable on the latch side releasing it. Hope this helps
