Yes if the fan is cooling the engine,, as you are driving, it will automaticly come on when the engine reaches a certain temp,, because every motor has a tempature thomostate ,, if the thormostate is damaged, the fan may stay on or to long,, just be sure to check with a mechanics at a auto shop near by just to confirm that its working properly, if you need anything you can find it here>>www.discountbargainprices.com

SOURCE: when I start my 97 audi tt from cold and leave it

Sounds like you have an alternator going bad. not producing enough voltage unless the engine RPMs are higher than Idle.

I was told that the actuator motor was faulty and causing my audi TT to overheat. what is this actuator motor and what does it do for my car???

I presume it is the A/C Fan controller they are referring too.

This is an electronic relay controller that runs the coolant fans at different speeds and is also responsible for denying a/c operation when the Engine ECU detects an emission fault.

If the 'Check Engine' lamp is illuminated or the 'Throttle Body Adaption' has not run, a/c will not come on....but fans for cooling the engine should run when needed .

One way to check is to turn on the ignition to RUN but without engine running, activate the a/c and see if the cooling fans are running. If they are running, the Controller is generally not the problem.

If they are not running, the above applies to a certain extent in the course of diagnosis.. These controllers fail often and yours may have done so.

To further check, use a test lamp or DVOM to check for Battery voltage at the fat RED wire going to the Fan Controller.

The controller have two relays inside with a logic board, two plugs from the main loom, to the fan and a/c system...... plugs are socket keyed so only fit on one position in the controller..

Radiator Fan is activated by the engine ECU sending a signal to Fan Controller when the Coolant Temperature Sensor reports coolant exceeding normal temperature .

These Controllers live under the front chassis member below the battery and are held in place with two bolts, accessible after removing the battery and tray......IIRC.

Audi TT : Electronic Fan Controller part # 1J0 906 381 B. Your Audi parts deptment will tell you if this part have been updated with a C, D, or F designation. You can also find them at PartsGeek.com

2003 TT Air Bag & Seat Belt warning lights not eluminating

It is fairly complicated to remove the instrument panel to replace the light bulb. It requires you to remove the steering wheel and airbag module and several other components.

The sound you hear may be the coolant pump for the turbo.

2003 Audi TT Quatro Coupe. The radiator cooling fan does not work. Vehicle over heats because the fan does not work. Replaced the radiator cooling fan motor and the temperature sensor. The problems is...

The main reason for the over heating of the audi tt is to do with the water pump. The propeller within the first type of water pumps is made of plastic. This was to prevent corrosion, however was never designed to last longer than 5 years. What you need to do is purchase the new style water pump. These new style water pumps have been designed with a metallic propellor which should resolve the overheating. Let us know how you get on.
