The heater is not working because of coolant loss, don't use the car till the fault is fixed as damage to the engine will acure , the coolant must be escaping some ware , Check the engine oil ,if milky It points to leaking gasket or cracked cylinder head, fill the radiator, fit a radiator tester and pressure to the pressure on the filler cap, check for external leaks at all hoses and expansion plugs, if ok release the pressure and refit the tester, have a helper start the engine , watch the pressure gauge if it raises quickly it points to a cracked cylinder or blown head gasket. The thermostat housing is on the engine block under the top radiator hose.
You have to check the blend door actuator cause it may stuck closed and can't open from a electrical malfunction from the part itself or it could be the plug itself. This is a suggestive measure, but look into it please.

First thing first, turn off the engine wait for 15 - 20 mints, open the radiator cap and fill it up to the top then start the engine and see if it needs more water adn add as needed, then wait till you ca see the water circulating in the radiator now instead of corculating if it starts boiling out shut the engine replace the thermostat and do the whole thing again.
unless there is water in the engine the gauge will not be able to show the actual temp of the engine, so always malke sure you have water / antifreeze
SOURCE: Kia Rio....fan/heater not blowing air.
Check the fuses and relays for heater and AC. If good , a fusible link wire could have burned out.
SOURCE: heater will not blow hot air. it blows cold air
The heater core is possibly blocked or the temperature adjuster is not working.
First check the controls to be certain that the temperature aduster is working and the flaps/doors that direct the flow of hot air are working.
If they are..........
Check heater hose temp. If one is hot and one is cold, you are not getting flow through the heater core.
Bleed it to remove an air blockage.
If that does not work, flush the system.
If that does not work, replace the heater core.

one of two things could be happening... either the radiator is low on coolant or your thermostat is stuck (which if it is stuck you will have to replace) . But first let engine cool down, you need to check coolant level, squeeze one of the radiator hoses even if engine is cooled down to make sure there is little or no pressure in cooling system then remove radiator cap/coolant bottle cap to check level.by the way if it is low you will need to figure out why.. the obvious reason is a leak you may have to go to a shop and have system pressure tested to locate leak to repair.. good luck to ya.. hope this helps

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Have you checked to see if it is a coolant sensor? Have you checked to make sure the fans are coming on? Are you leaking coolant anywhere? Checked the cap?
