First thing to do is check fluid level then check for leaks inside and outside you have to know if fluid can leak out then air will get in air is no good in a hydraulic system air compresses fluid dose not .Try bleeding the system if that dose not fix it the most likely problem would be the master cylinder the one inside on the clutch pedal look for fluid there or on the floor if you see it it needs to be replaced. The only other thing would be the slave cylinder witch is inside the bell housing witch the transmission would need to be removed to get at it in witch case you might as well replace the whole clutch its not worth the time then to have it fail a couple month down the road.

SOURCE: nissan clutch problem

If your not able to shift into any gear that means your clutch is not engage/disengaging. Check for fluid leaks, you said topped off and fluid levels were low? It sounds like you have a Slave cylinder or master cylinder leak, if its leaking its bet to replace both.

SOURCE: Loss of acceleration. Transmission? Clutch? Cable?

Try replacing the clutch cable first, these cars came with a simple clutch cable that is cheap & easy to replace. the end that hooks to the clutch pedal is plastic & can wear out. the later VW golfs came with an expensive automatically adjusting clutch cable. these can be installed in older VW's.

the old cables had to be manually adjusted like a motorcycle clutch cable. check a vw service manual. there needs to be a bit of slack on the lever that pushes the clutch disk.
if it is too tight the clutch may not engage fully & you will cook the clutch & flyweel.

Also check the shift linkages, there are many plastic bushings in the system that wear out
and can make the shifting sloppy. these are cheap and easy to replace.

Personally I have not had any real problems with the 5 speed transmissions in VW's.
although I have hear of a variety of problems with latter VW's trashing the transmissions. The automatics are another story.
The 020 transmissions were built to handle the 75hp/ 1800lb Schricco. putting them in a
Golf GTI with 150hp, or a 3000lb jetta 3 caused lots of problems.

ps: I would pick up a cheap used 5 speed from a junkyard, preferably out of a Rabbit, not
a golf or Jetta. take it to a machine shop to check for the usuall problems to see if it ok
before installing it. If that fixes the problem get your money back from the people that sold you the rebuilt transmission.

SOURCE: have to change clutch plate on suzuki grand vitara

If it's hard to get into gear you should check the clutch is disengaging properly.
Before changing the clutch plate, check that the clutch throw-out is adjusted correctly and the actuating hydraulics/levers have the correct amount of travel.

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V clutch sticking and hard shifting

I am dealing with a very similar issue on my 03 Spec V , So far i noticed the clevis pin was loose and the locking hitch pin that slips thru it had fallen out . this caused the gears to not wanna engage due to the bolt behind the clevis which runs to the master cylinder was not getting pressed in when i pushed the clutch pedal in because the clevis pin was slippin on n off giving me no pressure up top .. I had to remove my lower dash panel in order to get visual n hand access to this pin , it is a tight spot to work in as well . May be easist to remove the 4 14mm bolts that hold yur driver seat in to give ya more room to work n stretch out ur arms

Why does the clutch pedal gets stack down when pressed? (it's a suzuki grand vitara model 2011)

This could be more than one reason. Could you please comment below describing exactly what happens when the pedal gets 'stuck' down?
Does the pedal feel correct as you push it down? Does it change gear normally even when the pedal does get stuck?
If the clutch pedal feels wrong when you use it, the clutch fluid may be low needing to be topped up and the system might need bleeding. Is the pedal slack when you press it or pull it free? This could be a faulty return spring on the pedal.

Hi Have a broken clutch cable on my 1996 suzuki vitar but can't seem to pull it out from the Clutch release arm which has a joint pin attacted

USA car
we are usa, and our cars are not like cars outside usa.
but this is same.
i think,./?? based on week inputs.
your at the wrong end of car
take the bottom of first, just did 2 .myself. not long ago

when the bottom end nut is removed (adjuster nut)
the the cable goes slack, if not wrecked inside and siezed.
then the top goes loss and unhooks

see part 19, its comes off FIRST if you read the SM service manual it told you that.

http://www.fixkick.com/tranny/clutch/clutch.JPG

never attempt to remove the top rivet pin, that be nutz.

see part 25, this Un HOOKS last

I have a 2000 Isuzu hombre. I put a new clutch and slave cylinder in it. Can I adjust it. Is right off the floor. Hard to shift sometimes

its really a Chevy S10,
the only Japan part is the name sticker.
so what engines there?
hydraulic clutch is auto-dusting
after all air is bleed out of the system

diagnosing clutch can be bit tricky
but here are those tricks (blew many up racing)
the slave has a rod to a lever,
if bleed ok, can be hard, as the tubes go vertical
like a motorcycle or aircraft
bleeding is hard. (on all)
(bubbles float up as you force them down, dang a pain) (reverse brake bleed kit a godsend)

once done bled, i check the slave stroke distance.
its about 1 inch stoke,(2 men test)
no slack there, due to the hydraulic auto adjust.
see slack yell load, air in lines. or rod fit wrong.
so it moves about 1 full inch on the outer fork tip
PEDAL to the floor,
if yes and clutch drags, the clutch is bad.

one acid test of clutch
is REVERSE, it's a NON Syncrho mesh gear, a real gear. and fussy, (nice for testing, I learned long ago)
and will grind at the first bit, of clutch drag.
its like the coal miners canary bird, help me...

I love clutches, learned to drive in 15speed dump truck.
it had crash boxes... 5x3
double clutching all gears.all day long.

Suzuki won"t shift into gear unless I turn the car off and put it into first

make your adjustment to clutch, see how that works, but start saving up for a new clutch, or just have your inspection mechanic, take a look @ it for you, make the adjustment, and he can remove a cover and inspect the condition of your clutch with his own eyes. its a lot easyier for him than you. then, you'll know for sure. good luck

2001 Suzuki vitara clutch pedal went to the floor and wont come back up. It's like its stuck in perpetual neutral. Slave gear? Where is it.

Check the fluid level on the clutch master in the engine compartment. The clutch slave is located down on the bottom by your transmission.

-Check the clutch fluid,
-With the engine off make the trip from 1 to 5 gear,as if you were on the road
if it is okay
Let's go to the second step, With the engine running, do the same but keeping the pedal depressed , Does not engage any gear ?
-If the clutch fluid is OK , then The bearing of the output shaft is damaged or clutch release bearing

prev.gif next.gif Clutch ADJUSTMENTS 1997-98 Models CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT The clutch pedal height should not be a periodic adjustment but may be checked after components of the mechanical clutch system have been replaced. The proper clutch pedal height should be 0.2 in. (5mm) above the brake pedal height If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting bolt until the appropriate height is reached. Once set, keep the bolt from turning and tighten the locknut to secure the adjustment. CLUTCH PEDAL FREE-PLAY The clutch pedal free-play should be checked from time-to-time in order to assure proper clutch operation. The proper clutch free-play should be 0.6-1.1 in. (15-25mm). 1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. If the free-play must be adjusted, turn the joint nut (2) located at the transmission end of the clutch cable in or out, as necessary to achieve the proper play.
  3. Once the correct pedal free-play is obtained, check the free-play on the release arm (c), it should be 0.02-0.06 in. (0.5-1.5mm).
