The check engine light is the major issue ... not the blinking cruise control light. The error codes (example P0XXX) need to be read that caused the check engine light to determine the root cause. If you do not have a OBDII error code reader then take it to an auto parts store ... they usually will read it for free.
Your other option ... especially since the car is not very old ... is to unscrew your gas cap and then screw it back on until you get the clicking sound. If you recently bought gas you may not have screwed the cap on tight enough. This situation can cause the check engine light to go on. Retightening the gas cap will not necessarily immediately turn the check engine light off since the onboard computer usually needs a few trips to clear the error code
Check the codes you probably have a misfire or something else setting code and disabling the cruise

I did end up taking my car to the dealership where I bought it. They were great! He knew immediately what the problem was. Of course, they still did a thorough check too.
Anyway, it turned out that the plug to the electronic system had been knocked loose. This caused the check engine light to come on & the cruise control to not work (you were right, if the check engine light is on, cruise doesn't work). As for the door, that was simply the switch plate needing to be adjusted.

You might try removing the battery connectors for five minutes and replacing back.
If the codes do not disappear, please you might have to get a scanner to do that.
Cheers.
