The compression can change the more carbon build up the higher the compression, The best test is remove all the spark plugs , keep them in order, check if any are oily not a good sign, do a dry compression test one cylinder at a time, have a helper hold the throttle open , spin the motor and record the compression of each cylinder, now put a teaspoon of oil in number one cylinder and compression test and record above the dry test, do the other cylinders one at a time, if all the tests are within twenty PSI of each other the engine is ok, if a cylinder is low on compression on the first test but ok on the second the piston rings are worn or broken , if low on both tests there is a valve fault.

There is a separate T-piece 3way thermostat made by BMW for the old box shaped 318i and 518i cars. It is a separate unit that fits into the water pipes, and not onto the engine. It has a hot water inlet, and a hot water to radiator outlet, and an engine warming outlet. Each outlet has a thermostat. The radiator on opens when the water is hot, and the engine warming closes when the water gets too hot. The temp stays at 85 D Celsius all the time. Works well on my vw synchco bus and subaru 2.5 engine.

The spark plug number from Toyota Parts is 9091901059, which crosses to BPR5ES-11 for the standard plug from NGK.
If you are having problems with the plugs burning out to quickly, I would have to ask if this HiAce is a dual fuel model? Maybe they removed the LP system before you bought it, and that's causing the problems your experiencing?
Also the HiAce is an 80's minivan not an '02 Camry.
I hope this helps!
