That's a common issue with the Holden cruz as well as as the Ve commodore. I've had many come in with this issue and most of the time there is nothing wrong other times a bit of dirt/grit builds up on a sensor and throws up an error being the light and ESC/TC,It just needs resetting with a scan tool. Some places will do it for nothing others will charge depends on the mechanic!. It only takes a minute

replace the 0 2 sensor
inspect the plug connection for corrosion oil or water

here is a suggestion that is not so far out
instead of messing around with an engine change , why not fit a turbo kit to existing engine all you need to then is to have a speed shop with an chassis dyno fit a chip in the ECM for the turbo and you will be getting top performance and economy for around the same price as the smaller engine with the turbo
lets see what you have saved
problems fitting the engine to the transmission
problem radiator hose configuration
new chip in the ECM for the small engine
possible different ECM wiring and harness
here is what you get
far more torque than with a turbo smaller capacity engine
fewer installation problems
if you have it all installed by the turbo shop then it is professional and warranted

Hi If the Holden Dealer is saying your car needs a new battery then I would replace the battery. Now I am not saying that this will cure your problem however if you have a faulty battery then things will go wrong with your car. It is most important that any checks carried out are done with a very healthy battery or this may hinder any diagnosis. The Holden dealer should be able to check for any codes set and record them. Then clear the codes and recheck and compare if your car faults again. Sorry if this all sounds like a waste of time but vehicles are so complex these days it may take one or two trips to a dealer. Alternatively they may come up with the fault straight away after plugging it into a diagnostic computer.
