Hi...
If the speed sensor Not work on a Automatic Transmission.
The over drive will not work.
The over drive is a SENSOR Located inside of the Transmission.
On vehicles with 3.0 liters.
On vehicles with 3.3 0r 3.8 liters, Is Part of the selenoid pack.
But if you have a 3.3 or 3.8 Liters.
Most cases the transmission will not go up shifting.
it will Stay on 1st or 3r.
If your van is a 3.0 liter , I will recomend replace the speed sensor.
Located At Right side of the Trans. on the firewall side.
if you have 3.3 or 3.8 liters.
I recomend replace the Input and Output shaft Speed sensor.
Located at left side of the Transmission. Behind the Selenoid Pack.
The first step I recomend Is get the Vehicle scaned with a Diagnostic scan tool.
To know exactly what is the problem.
Is there some autoparts That do scan on vehicles with no charge
Just a Complementary service.
Advance autoparts, Autozone autoparts, Pepboy's Autoparts.
And some Napa Autoparts.
OK. I hope this help on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya....
Hello, I have the same problem with my 2002 neon. I was told it was the solenoid pack. I purchased one on eBay (the garage want around $200) for $88. I also bought on eBay the input and output VSS(vehicle speed sensors) for $25 for both. Autozone has these sensors for $27 each. I am going to replace these parts in a day or so to see if it helps.I dont have a garage and its cold outside here in West Virginia. I have also been told to check the ground straps to make sure they are getting good connections. They are located at the starter. I will let you know how this turns out for me when I do the repairs. I have been reading many forums where others are having the same problems. If you have learned anything from your experience please let me know.
Thank you,Dave
