I have the exact problem that you have been talking about... in fact I also have an issue with the heat/air not working when I use the dual setting... kind of a bummer as this is my first Lexus and with all the money I spent I'm a bit disappointed... I thought the car would be better.... I refuse to get rid of it because I love the car... I'm going to try and switch to the higher octane fuel like someone suggested and see if that is better. I've notified the dealer on several occasions and in fact am brining it in again next week... my 100K warranty is coming up and I want it documented one more time that I'm not happy with the transmission shift from 2nd to 3rd gear... mine seems to happen more first thing during the day rather than after it's been driven all day... nonetheless it's really disappointing... I don't think I would every spend the money on another Lexus because of this.
The vehicle is 13 years old with 100,000 miles. When buying a used vehicle you basically inherited some else's problems if the maintenance was not kept up. You will probably have to spend some money getting the vehicle back to where it should have been with regular service. If you get the transmission serviced I would get a pan drop, change the internal filter and have it filled with ONLY Toyota approved synthetic fluid. I have been in the auto repair business for 27 years snd that is how we do out Toyita transmission service.
Drain and fill the transmission fluid. DO NOT get a transmission flush. For best results, use a good synthetic ATF, such as Amsoil brand. It will let it operate at cooler temps.
I don't think you can fault the Lexus. You just need to do the recommended service when it is needed. We have a Toyota Highlander with the V6, which has the same running gear and we have not had any issues, because we keep up with the maintenance
required.
I had one, problem solve with changing correct AT oil, after changing the gears change smoothly, less consume gasoline, need to check ATF coller not obstruct with dirty, if more than 150K better change spark plugs
I used to have 2002 Lexus RX300 and 2003 Lexus LX470. I once have the same problem, either the transmission or the engine hesitate to run when I step on the gas. What I did was changed the transmission fluid, clean the Mas Air Flow Meter, and replace the air filter and it seem to go away. From then on, I do it once a year and the vehicle seem to run smooth.
Lexus RX 300/330s have a known transmission failure common problem, toyota onows about the problem. Get it documented asap at other shops etc before warranty runs out, otherwise it will be $1500-3000 for a rebuilt one installed. For future, I suggest adding an external ATF cooler and replacing ATF every 30K with full synthetic fluid. Hope this helps
If you haven't already, try draining the transmission fluid and replacing it with new. It's recommended to complete this service every 60,000 miles. Also try adding Rislone transmission additive. It worked wonders on my Ford Escape! If you have the fluid changed by someone else, it's advisable to NOT flush the system. The pressure caused by vacuuming it out could create more harm than good.
