SOURCE: CVT Tranny

I work at a Ford dealer and we have seen very little trouble with this trans-axle. We replaced a mectronics unit in one and replaced one complete assembly, other then that we have had no trouble with them and personally would have no fear of buying one.

SOURCE: how do you disconnect engine from transmission?

get the front end up on some jack stands, take the starter out, and you can access torque converter nuts from starter hole. you will need to turn the engine by hand and have someone else hold the engine still while you undo the nuts. Once those nuts are off and every thing else is removed from the transmission (CV shafts, wire connectors, etc) remove the bell housing bolts (5 or 6 I think) and pull (may need to pry with a bar some) the trans away from the engine and let it down gently. I believe (although I don't do much transmission work) that you may need to remove the sub-frame a as well.

SOURCE: do I need to change transmission fluid on my 2005 ford freestyle

The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.

No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.

I have a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 V6. Can I use the Lubegard Instant Shudder fix in my car?

Question edited for clarity, Lubegard and Shudder, not 'shutter'.
Question moved to vehicle category.

Yes you can.
  • Transmission Instant Shudder Fixx is a concentrated friction modifier formulated for eliminating torque converter shudder problems - instantly
  • Works with any automatic transmission fluid except Ford Type F and CVT applications

Is there a way to increase fluid pressure in 2007 Ford CVT?

A CV transmission is different to an ordinary automatic in that it has belt running between 2 pulleys that can vary the flange width and that gives an unlimited number of ratios in the transmission
However there is still a torque converter attached to the input shaft of one of the pulleys and like all automatics ,if that torque converter clutch servo/ solenoid is malfunctioning you will have what you describe
IT si possible that the servo to operate the adjustable pulleys is also not working but there are fault codes reports hat you can read scanner to determine if it is the torque converter clutch or the pulley servo
Just remember that the CVT uses special oil and not ATF so don't use the wrong oil or it is a transmission replacement if you do

Transmission modulator 1996 4wd Ford explorer locstion

I think this is an electronic trans with no modulator. Overdrive is really not a gear but rather torque converter lockup. Torque converter may have completely failed.

Can the torque converter keep the motor from turning as in locked up in 2006 ford freestyle 3.0 v 6

Lock-up style torque converters can and will keep the engine from turning if the do not release when they are supposed to. I worked as a Service Writer for Pep Boys for 5 years and had a couple cases of travelers coming in saying that when they tried to stop at a stop light the car just jerked and died. They had to restart in neutral and when they tried to put it in drive the car jumped forward and died. In both cases we managed to get them back on the road by disconnecting the power connector for the lockup converter on the side of transmission. This allowed them to finish their trip (albeit without the lock-up feature), and they were able to affect repairs at their home mechanic.

My 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis transmission location of the torque converter lock up sensor

There is no part called the lockup sensor, the lock up occurs when the Vehicle speed sensor sends a signal to the Transmission control module that the truck has reached the minimum speed and throttle angle for lock up to take place, it then activates a switch inside the transmission that locks up the torque converter clutch.

Isuzu bighorn year 1995, not changing gear after 1st gear

This is the classic symptom of a vehicle with a failed torque converter lockup solenoid.
The lockup solenoid "locks up" the transmission to the drivetrain but only operates when the transmission progresses from first gear to second gear.
