Instrument cluster not working

Normal Operation The wrench reconfigurable telltale can be turned on by any one of three modules. The powertrain control module (PCM) provides the electronic throttle control status, the transmission control module (TCM) provides transmission status and the four wheel drive (4WD) control module (if equipped) provides a status of the 4WD system to the instrument cluster. Each module monitors the powertrain for their respective function and provides the instrument cluster with the operating status over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When a fault condition exists in any of the monitored systems, the PCM, TCM or 4WD (if equipped) control modules provide the instrument cluster with a message to turn on the wrench warning indicator.
If the electronic throttle control message is missing or if the data is deemed invalid by the instrument cluster for greater than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 and defaults the wrench reconfigurable telltale ON. If the O/D off message is missing or invalid for greater than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0101 and defaults the wrench reconfigurable telltale ON. If equipped with 4WD and the 4WD status message is missing or invalid for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0102 and defaults the wrench reconfigurable telltale ON.
NOTE: If U0100 is set in the instrument cluster other symptoms may also be present such as an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or temperature gauge. If U0101 is set, other symptoms may include the O/D off indicator ON. If DTC U0102 is set, other symptoms may include the 4x4, 4x4 LOW or 4x4 AUTO reconfigurable telltales may be inoperative.

You take it to a qualified repair shop , no reset . They will hook up a factory scan tool an check fuel level sensor input data to the PCM- engine computer an input to instrument cluster . The sending unit in the fuel tank could be bad or the instrument cluster gauge is . GM had problems with stepper motors inside the instrument cluster , these stepper motors control the gauge ,fuel , temp , etc... 2003 to 2006

Look for a bad fuse for the cluster first. I'd want to fix the alternator voltage regulator before anything else.

Which vehicle??? Normally the low fuel warning light is on the instrument cluster, there should be an icon of a fuel bowser (gas pump) on the instrument panel, either on the speedo or the tacho face plate. When the fuel gets low, this icon will light up.

It may be that the speedo and temp are mechanical, whereas the tach and fuel are electrical. Check fuse for inst. cluster for clean and tight fitment. Check electrical connection at back of inst. cluster.

The fuel gauge will be the tank sender unit fault--- The speedo will be the sender unit on the gear box playing up and the oil gauge will be a fault to the oil sender unit. The only common point is the earth which may be loose rusted

The Instrument cluster is partially burnt ....this is caused by the thin metallic strips that are part of the cluster.....It is designed like a road map ...the paths will lead to each gauge or light and sometimes burnout in a few places rather than all areas.....they can be replaced by removing the instrument unit and it is mounted to the back of it......I really need to know the year make and model...or just last 9 digits of vin #.I might can help you find one or an entire assy at a cheap price guaranteed.....

have you looked at fuse,
make sure they are clean

It sounds like you may have a poor connection in the ignition switch. When this occurs move the key a little and see if problems clear.
