I don't recall if they used a pressure brake switch or a mechanical brake switch either way it sounds like it's out of adjustment by disconnecting it you should be able to determine if they're working properly

The issue mat be coming from the stop light switch. Unplug it and see if the lights turn off. If so then the switch is either not installed correctly of is damaged. Let me know if the brake lights stay on. If so then there is something else going on and some further diagnostics will need to be performed.

SOURCE: the brake light on the

There is a level switch in the master cylinder if the fluid level is low it will turn on the light and If you pressure or vacuum bleed the brakes you will center the proporting valve switch that warns of low brake pressure in either Front or rear.
Vacuum bleeding I have found to work the best.
Make sure the Park brake lever is all the way released. If you find this informationn helpful please leave me a favorable rating and by all means contact me if I can be of any further help.

SOURCE: my battery light and brake

now i could be totally wrong here but i would check wires on stop light switch first to make sure they are not loose, thenif appear ok remove the dash and look at connection on back of speedo ,if they appear ok then look at printed circuit.but it could be fault in ECU and this would require the relevant software to check it out.if its in america then a scanmaster will do it but if europeon then dealer most likely as europeon cars uses different software and some are encrypted

SOURCE: 1996 T-100 dash brake light will not go out

The brake fluid level sensor in the master cylinder is stuck in the lower position which completes the circuit to illuminate the light.. Try tapping lightly on the side of the reservoir to loosen it. If that does not help, you will need to replace the level sensor.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

SOURCE: Fiat Uno Pacer - Brake Booster not assist braking

SOURCE: TCS light and Brake light stay on.

The main reason the TCS light is on is because there is a problem with the main brake system. The traction control system uses the hydraulic brakes to help keep the car on the road in a skid or other event.
If the main brake system is faulty, the TCS can't do its job.
The hydraulic brake system may be working fine in your case, but the TCS does not know that.
I wonder if that low fluid switch can be bought separately ??

Replaced the lines, pads, rotors, calipers, and the brake booster in my 2005 Silverado 1500, pressure's good, and the pedal is still hard. It still doesn't stop well. Could it be the Master Cylinder?

master cylinders are in 2 sections
each section works 2 diagonal brakes
it is possible that there is air in the system and the braking is only on 2 wheels
take it to a brake specialist shop for a pressure bleed to determine if the fault is actually the master cylinder
ON some master cylinders the break warning light is actually in the side of the master cylinder between the 2 pistons and when bleeding or loss of fluid occurs , that switch actually prevents one piston of moving the full stroke for braking and has to be removed for bleeding and the hole blocked up

99 caravan 3.3 no abs brakes. I have replaced a bad master cylinder and all 4 rusted brake lines. The ABS brake warning light is not on. The van does not pull to one side.

Something is wrong with your statement
it is a 99 caravan 3.3 no abs , then you are on about abs light pump etc
the abs pump only works when the master cylinder is under pressure and that pressure is suddenly reduced by the sensor reading a locked wheel and a valve is opened to release line pressure to that wheel As soon as that wheel starts to turn, the valve closes
while the wheel is stopped and that valve is open , the abs pump kicks in to maintain line pressure otherwise the brake pedal would go to the floor
master cylinders work through a. abs unit and not because of it so if the master cylinder becomes faulty, the abs pump will not operate until a wheel stops turning as there is no line pressure to stop a wheel turning
the abs light may not be on because there is nothing to operate the system to put it on

Where is the brake light switch located at on a 1957 buick special

1957 a golden age when cars were made from metal ,nostalga anyway i sure that on a vehicle of this age it will be a hydraulic operated switch in the brake pipe close to the master cylinder ,now a car of this age if its unrestored and mucked about with by some back street so called custom workshop like gas monkey or west coast or similar then it will only have one pipe from the master cylinder running to a multi connection 4 way and here between the master and multi connection will sit the brake light switch ,simple

1991 Mazda B2200 Series Brake light and Anti-lock light on? Brake pedal pushed to the floor and truck won't stop. Is it the master cylinder and wheel bearing?

The master cylinder and the wheel bearings are completely un realated parts. The first thing to check is the brake fluid level. If it's full and you have zero braking and zero pedal then you may well have a dead m/c. If you find an empty reservior, fill it and then figure out where it went. A leak anywhere will have the same result, no fluid, no brakes. The ABS issue may or may not be related but you need to solve the no pedal problem first.

When coming to a stop, the brakes work fine until I get almost stopped, then the pedal will push down further and brakes will come on hard, and stop vehicle hard, what could be the problem?

Sounds like your master cylinder is bad on your brake system. If you are stopped in your driveway(not on the street) leave the vehicle in park. Start the car and place your foot on the brake with light pressure and keep this pressure on the pedal. If the pedal continues to drop slowly to the floorboard your master cylinder is leaking past the primary piston in the master cylinder. If this is the case have this repaired immediately. Your brakes could just all of a sudden not be there the next time you apply them when you need to stop.

When I apply the brake pedal the rear brakes donot work. However my front brakes do work fine. On the 1992 Buick Road Master is there a special valve in the master cylinder? no brake fluid is leaking from...

is it drum brakes in the rear or disc?. it could be that it needs to be bleed out or a bad master cylinder/or the wheel cylinders or slides are seized up .if you need any further insistence feel free to ask again thank you .

My Stop lights are not working.

The brake system error code is for a faulty master cylinder. check the cylinder function and check your brake fluid level as well. the master cylinder is located on the fire wall directly in line with the steering wheel under the hood. the brake fluid reservoir is located and attached to the master cylinder on top. check the master cylinder and fluid thoroughly.

Concerning the brake lights, you will need to inspect the wiring harness in the trunk or back hatch. make sure the brake light wiring harnesses is in good condition. check the bulb housing as well.

replace the brake light wiring harness if found to be faulty.

I have a 1996 buick century with little brake pedal resistance

Okay....air is always the likely suspect....contamination of the hydraulic system too. Quick question, was it like this before the maintenance was done?

The other thing it could be also is the power brake booster check valve.

Let me know if it was like this before all the work.

Plus, if the parts were remanufactured, they could be faulty parts.

But let me know if it was like this before the work was done.
