I have a Pronto M51. There are 2 brand new batteries and I had the charging system checked. The system checks out ok and passes. However I barely get 3 miles per charge.

The tech told me that a new joy stick would fix the problem. He said I should be getting 8 to 11 miles. What is your advice please?

SOURCE: check charging system

Do you have gauges on this car also?
If so, you may have a problem with what is called a "current shunt" resistor. This will prevent the car from recharging the battery....accordianman

check the air ride suspension system if that is causing the problem the car maybe trying to lift the rear end and it will cause the battery to lose charge check in the trunk for a shut off switch and see if that helps

SOURCE: Check charging system

So you have a new alternator. I S IT CHARGING ? If the answer is yes , and the battery still dies, I would say there is a 12 volt drain in the electrical system. Hope this helps

My car was running and just shut down and has not turned back on, what is wrong with it?

Lights ok? if not check Battery first, or connections to the battery. Fuel? Any warning lights before this happened? Any "clicks" when you turn the key to start? No clicks, no Battery. You may have a bad charging system as well. Are the fan belts all ok or do you have some missing (bare pully with no belt) Can you "jump" to get it started? but then dies? Charging system problem if the belts are ok.

You mean alternator will not charge the battery, and the battery won't hold a charge? could be. there are a lot of relays under the dash. many connections some of which may have been disturbed.

Turn the ignition and the engine barely cranks

You could have a starter that draws too much amperage or a bad ground. Check your grounds at the battery cables and check that the battery is fully charged. You may have an alternator problem. If the battery is fully charged check the starting and charging systems and that will tell you your problem.

Have a 1996 Taurus wagon--dead battery--got brand new battery and connected it properly and car barely turns over and wont turn enough to start--car was sitting for about three months

Was the battery checked before it was sold to you? Batteries will lose their charge over a period of time even when not hooked up. If you have a voltmeter it should read 12.8 volts on a fully charged battery.
Have you tried to boost the car with cables?
I suspect if the car was working OK 3 months ago it should start. Which leads me to suggest an undercharged battery.

Will not start, jumped barely turn over once lights radio work when jumped.

Dead battery... Sometimes if the battery is very low then it must sit with the jumpers on for a few minutes to charge the battery. If everything worked fine after the engine started then the alternator is working ok. Check the battery terminals for corrosion and clean as necessary.

My silverado 3500 01 battery keeps going

Ck the charge rate at the battery posts. The proper range is 23.6 to 14.2v , The higher the voltage the llower the amps. Ie; at 13v Alternator is about 10% under capacity. @ 12v it is charging at max capacity. @ 15 v isthe alt is not charging but frying your battery. 9amps is ok if battery is fairly charged but at start up it should sit on 13-13.6 volts. for about 15 seconds the start climbing to less charge towards 14.2.
