What will keep the fuel pump from coming on - Cars & Trucks

Check your wires coming from the fuel pump for any open wires. Repair wires if any. It could also be your fuel pump relay thats defective.

the fuel pump uses the gasoline in the tank to keep it cool ---below 1/4 can cause the pump to warm up ---also bad or corroded connection ----faulty pump ---the fuel filter partly clogging or clogged

Just replace the pump. It is bad.

if the fuel pump is faulty then the fuel on demand ( driving) would not be there so you would have the problem at speed not at idle. More like a vacuum leak or possible a bad battery and at idle the alternator cannot keep up the current needed to run the electronics which includes the fuel pump. Have a load test done on the battery to check for bad cells.

The pump works without priming anything. If the tank is vented, and you have fuel in the tank, and the pump is installed correctly, it should pump fuel out.
Are you sure the pump is getting power and ground ?

Your fuel pump is bad. Replace it.

The anti thieft system is keeping it from running.

Check the fuse to the fuel pump and check the fuel pump relay. Also check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60PSI to 65PSI when the ignition key is in the run position and the fuel line is pressurized. There is usually a screen strainer inside fuel tank. This is to pick up big stuff inside tank and keep it from entering fuel lines. If someone was messing with you and dropped like a glove or piece of cloth into the fuel tank it would float around and eventually get caught against the screen and would keep gas from being sucked out of the tank. This is one possibility to consider.
