SOURCE: 98 Expedition coolant leak top back of engin

Sorry im late with this,i couldnt seem to log on....The answer to your question is YES,there is a steel line under the intake with a short piece of rubber line attached to it and you can just about see it from the front of the intake with a light,it can leak and cause coolant to run off the back of the engine,The intake gasket set alone is about $40.00 and i dont know about the rubber line,i have seen it physically but havent changed one yet.Note the date of manufactor just incase,i bought an intake set for a 99 and the engine design was changed half way through...its not too hard to pull off the intake and re-install,you will need a 7mm socket for the coil packs,8mm socket for the fuel rail bolts and lower intake bolts and power steering bracket bolts and throttle bracket bolts,10mm socket for the intake bolts and alternator bolts and egr valve, and a large cresant wrench for the exhaust tube thats connected to the egr valve, flat screw driver for the air cleaner...and plenty of extensions with a swivel to be able to get to the back bolts of the intake....just incase you do it yourself this info could make it easier to gather tools. Its about a 3 1\2 to 4 hour job start to finish for the first time doing it,includes cleaning everything..Good luck

SOURCE: coolant leak 3.3 Nissan Xterra

you can purchase a chilton or haynes service book for around 10-15 bucks, it has lots of good info and will save you alot of headaches. however intake gaskets are cheap and one solution would be to remove the intake to get a better look, its an easy process and only takes about 15 minutes

Leaking coolant 94 explorer older 4.0 alum intake looks like pos intake gasket Leak is under bottom thermostat bottom RT was hard to see that not a head gasket? No water in oil

Check and see if it's coming out where the thermostat goes on the engine. There is suppose to be a gasket in place when you change the thermostat. May have to take apart and install a new one. I had that problem.

94 grand marquis leaks collant where motor meets transmission

There is not a coolant passage there.

Look for a leak above that point that is running down.

Look at the intake manifold for cracks.

Look for a leaking "freeze plug" on the back of the engine.

94 4.3 vortec getting horrible gas mileage why???

Go to You Tube Video to find the problems
with that motor & the solution
A local repair shop can check bulletins in their
data base for the fix also
Most likely intake gasket,if you use Dex Cool
It eats gaskets & the vehicle is old ,so you can expect
to be constantly working on it

I have a 97 passport and my engine coolant keeps leaking out of a small hole right above the flywheel on the back of the engine block. Is this hole supposed to be there and if so where would the leak...

I Have a 94 Rodeo,3.2l v6 I had the same problem...Yes it is a drain hole..You might have a coolant pipe running under your lower intake if so it's the "O" ring on that pipe..It runs from the upper radiator hose to rear of block...50 cent part. If you are doing it yourself check the other heater hose metal pipe O ring also. towards the front under the thermostat housing. I just fixed mine.I had antifreeze coming out the inspection plates on the trans took off the upper plenium and lower intake and the rubber O ring was shot.Clean out flange use a wire V shaped wheel. make sure the Ring fits Snug on the coolant pipe, dry fit in the flange.( Got assorted sizes at NAPA) put a good coat of Black RTV silicon on O ring,And some in the hole itself press pipe in hole and install the bolts.Allow to set for 3hrs. Again this is on a 94 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 L V6 5spd. Hope that helps you

I have a check engine light on with a P0101 MAF sensor code and it appears to be using coolant. its a 2003 chevrolet silverado with the 5.3L V8. im thinking it might be the intake gasket? what is the flat...

The intake gasket could cause the MAF code and a rough idle when cold. But not the coolant issue. The intake is a dry intake. It doesn't have coolant running thru it. Check the water pump for leaks

My 2000 malibus temperature gauge is always above half and eats anitfreeze like crazy! whats wrong with it?!

Most likely internal head gasket leak, all 3.1L and 3.4L engines are notorious for intake gasket (external leak can be seen on either side of engine intake manifold) or head gasket leaking (usually internally). If it goes thru coolant and there is no obvious leak on the ground than its internally burning the coolant. If leaking on the ground check below water pump while running, it may be leaking also. Ultimately its probably head gaskets.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am with "lower intake leak"...What does this mean specifically? Would this mean the intake for the radiator, gasket, or valve?

Usually intake has to do with the induction system, as in intake manifold , The intake manifold can have several types of leaks, the intake can have a vacuum leak, oil leak, coolant leak or a combination of any of the before mentioned....hope this helps,

Coolant fluid leaking below carberator 1989 dodge daytona

May not apply to yours, but I have seen coolant lines routed under intake (actually through plenum below carb)...the idea is to pre-heat and vaporize fuel to prevent "puddling" under carb. If you look at most v8 engines, exhaust is routed the same way, to do the same job. You may need to use a mirror to see under there to determine exactly what's going thats causing leak.
