Take it to an Auto transmission service center and give the box a full service and they also should fix the problem

engine and engine cooling system i would overflow bottle level first my need to be topped up engine may want to be drawing in coolant but none in reservoir if not this issue search on line p2138 code gmc serria 2008 2500hd there are couple sites with different info

diagnose the code & find a problem
& resolved it

check with dealer.these are noted for instrument panel problems and are under warrenty up to 80000 miles.

safety[ limp] mode truck wont go over 2000 rmp but it will get u safely off road or to a service station or home ur getting some kind of code thats effecting ur truck --use a different reader urs might not be able to retrieve the problem code but can reset the computer-some auto stores such as auto zone / advanced auto scan for free check shops in ur local area

the easiest way to deal with the radio is to replace it with one from a junk yard; not too expensive as the chip for the region is soldered in and, is not removable or, easily reprogramable as for your GPS GMC can send you the new disks but, I'd just ask a junk yard they know everything

Sounds like the cam positioning sensor. I have a 2002 GMC 2500HD 8.1L and this happened to me. Hope this helps.
