What can I do to prevent getting stuck in my power recliner during a blackout?

If it's binding the circuit breaker will shut off the recline motor. You have to replace the entire back frame to replace the motor

It will either be the switch or the motor itself.

emove the seat and look under it figure which motor controls the recliner and either manualy wind it or power it up(while out) and see if it goes the way you want it.

It sounds like the inside of the recliner knob is stripped out. If you go to your local GM dealership and give them your VIN number they can order you a new one. Here is the removal and installation directions.

1. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the plastic center cap from the center of the recliner handle.
   
   
2. Pull the recliner handle off the shaft.

Installation Procedure

3. Install the plastic center cap into the center of the recliner handle.

the motor has ceased get a new motor

electric or manual?

only 4 bolts hold the seat in they may have a plastic cover on them that can be popped off with a screwdriver.remove the bolts and lean the seat back check the wires going to the motor and make sure it has power going to it.Don't know of any way to manually recline the seat without taking it apart.

Because that switch is broken and stuck in the recline mode.
