1983 Dodge 150 pickup the speedometer works but the rest of the gauges do not work the lights in the dash work but the instruments don't only the speedometer works

More then likely it's the stepper mortors inside the instrument cluster . If it were a ground issue more then just speedometer an tach wouldn't be working . Like instrument lighting an rest of gauges . GM had bad stepper motors inside instrument clusters , 2003 to 2006 . Watch this video

Because multiple gauges do not function I would look for a blown fuse. If the fuse is ok. I recommend pulling the gauge cluster and check connections. Its and older truck. I think either the contacts in the connecter, going to the gauge cluster may be dirty. Pull the connecters, blow them off, reconnect them and check to see if they are working. If not you will need to test a couple of the gauges with a multimeter. If it isn't the wiring then it is the cluster. There are companies that I use to rebuild clusters. If you have to go that route ask and I'll forward contact information. Other wise you can also check out LMC truck parts. Ive used them in the past. I recommend them too. Good Luck.

You will need to remove the instrument cluster form the dash and send it in for repair.

There are screws on the bottom side of the dash pad, within the bezel, that should be all that is needed. Carefully lift the dash out, and disconnect the power connectors. removing these usually takes a torx bit. Similar screws will allow access from the back of the dash gauge set to locate the bulbs...if it is a digital dash, it may not be servicable.
