I drive a Hyundai Getz 2006 3 door. Recently I will be driving along smoothly and for no particular reason I will feel this sudden pressure underneath the accelerator, almost like a jet spray of water coming up from underneath the car. It happened first when it was raining so that is what I thought it was but in recent times it has happened in dry conditions. Any ideas?

Have the fuel pressure checked- this would determine if your fuel pump is working properly. Its really easy if you have a gauge. you might be able to rent one at a part store. or it could need a new fuel filter

if the speedo still works then it will need a spedo unit if the speedo doesn't work it is either the cable or the gear in the trans to check the cable unthread from trans and attach a drill to the cable innereds spin the drill if the speedo does not move replace the speedo cable

Most likely there is a wheel speed sensor that is throwing an erratic signal and making the system think you have lost traction, the system may have a trouble code stored, have it tested by your local Ford dealer to verify the trounle code.

Open drivers door and look at the hinge area. You will see a black rubber accordion looking tube going from the door to the a-pillar. This is the protector for the wiring harness. Wiggle it and see if this recreates your concern. If it does then pop it loose at both ends so you can inspect the wiring.Check each one carefully, feel them and tug on them. You will be looking for one that the wire inside the wiring insulation has broken, the two wires to really look at closley are the YE/BK and BK .
It may also possibly be a door ajar switch sticking and for this take some WD40 and shoot some in each latch on the side of the door and open and close the door several times and this usually un-sticks it.
SOURCE: I can hear water sloshing
The water probably went down between the window and the door. On the bottom of the door is a drain hole, with all that rain it looks like the water in the door washed some dirt or something over the hole and stopped it up but not before it went inside the car and onto the carpet. Just unplug the hole with a small stick or something and watch for the water drain out. Open the doors and let your car dry out. Should be O.K.

Thanks for all suggestions. Will show them to my mechanic tomorrow and if one in particular is on the money will post that in thread.
