2006 Chevy isn't as much a car as a computer-on-wheels and it isn't advisable to change the original wiring or equipment in any way because the electronics can soon become seriously upset. Mostly switches on such vehicles merely send signals to a computer requesting it commands the lights, heater, wipers to switch on. This usually applies also to the starter switch.
My advice is to return the vehicle to original before trouble tracing.

Hey mate, I have the same problem. Try switching that relay with one of the other relays first to see if its that.
I have a suspicion that it might be ignition related as I though I smelt unburnt fuel in the exhaust. I could be wrong though.
Im going to have a look today, and will let you know how I get on.
How many k's has your car done?
Battery connections can be very deceptive and look good yet still not make good contact. Clean carefully and replace any ends of cables which show corrosion you cannot clean. Use some lube over the while connection once reattached (I like white lithium lube).
